About Innovations for Poverty Action: Innovations for Poverty Action (IPA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to discovering and promoting effective solutions to global poverty problems. In close partnership with decision makers -- the policymakers, practitioners, investors, and donors working with the poor around the world -- IPA designs and evaluates potential solutions to poverty problems using randomized evaluations, the most rigorous evaluation method available. We also mobilize and support these decision makers to use these solutions to build better programs and policies at scale.
About the Project: The Daycare Evaluation Program (DEP) Project is a project that seeks to evaluate the market- and firm-level impacts of an innovative social franchising model implemented by Kidogo that aims to improve childcare quality and access in multiple Counties in Kenya. The evaluation is led by PIs from Ohio State University, University of Vermont and Villanova University.
The project has had several phases of data collection including Baseline in 2024, Midline in 2025 and Endline of one of the components started mid this year with more activities scheduled in the remainder of the year. DEP has presence in 11 counties Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado, Mombasa and Kilifi Counties.
We are currently seeking experienced and enthusiastic Field Officers to support a component of Child development for children aged 3–6 years. Field Officers will administer the International Development and Early Learning Assessment (IDELA) using SurveyCTO and interact directly with young children in daycare, preschool or home settings.
This role primarily involves administering one-on-one child assessments with young children and therefore requires individuals who are patient, engaging and comfortable working directly with children.
About the Position: The Field Officer under the general supervision of the Research Associate and within the limits of Innovations for Poverty Action-Kenya policies and procedures coordinates the facilitation of field activities and functions within IPAK. The Field Officer will work closely with the Research Associate and other study staff to perform a variety of tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities

• 
  
• Participate in the bench testing, training and piloting of the SurveyCTO data collection tools and assessment procedures.
  
• Conduct standardized IDELA child assessments with children aged 3–6 years while creating a safe, engaging and child-friendly assessment environment.
  
• Screen eligible participants and obtain informed consent from caregivers and assent from children in accordance with study protocols.
  
• Ensure accurate, complete and timely data collection, maintaining the highest standards of data quality and integrity throughout the fieldwork period.
  
• Participate actively in daily debrief meetings, providing feedback on field experiences, assessment tools and operational challenges to support continuous improvement.
  
• Complete assigned field activities within the scheduled timelines, including maintaining daily productivity logs and callback records as required by the Senior Field Officer and Project Management team.
  
• Safeguard all project equipment, including tablets and assessment materials, and promptly report any loss, damage or technical issues.
  
• Adhere to all project protocols, child safeguarding principles, confidentiality requirements and ethical research standards.
  
• Attend and actively participate in the full project training, including practical sessions on administering IDELA assessments.
  
• Any other duties assigned by supervisor or management team.
  

Qualification and Experience

• 
  
• Diploma and above in Education, Early Childhood Development, Psychology, Social Sciences or a related field (preferred).
  
• Previous experience conducting research or assessments with children aged 3–6 years (preferred).
  
• Comfortable interacting with young children in a patient, engaging and professional manner.
  
• Experience using electronic data collection platforms (e.g., SurveyCTO or ODK).
  
• Ability to communicate fluently in English and Kiswahili.
  
• Flexible, self-motivated and able to work efficiently under minimal supervision.
  

Desired

• 
  
• Experience conducting IDELA child assessments with children aged 3-6 years(desired).
  
• Candidates who are from or are comfortable working in Busia, Bungoma, Kakamega, Uasin Gishu, Nakuru, Naivasha, Nairobi, Kiambu, Machakos, Kajiado, Mombasa and Kilifi (Kilifi North and Kilifi South) Counties are strongly preferred. (No accommodation offered)
