SOFDI is hiring a 4K Club Program Co-Lead to spearhead its school-based agriculture program. This full-time role combines curriculum-aligned design, teacher training, youth engagement, and government liaison to inspire a new generation of agriculture-aware youth across Western Kenya.

The 4K Club Program Co-Lead will be a key member of the team leading SOFDI’s agriculture-in-schools initiative, grounded in Kenya’s national 4K Club model and aligned with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC). This role combines program design, project management, teacher training, youth engagement, and government liaison to build an inspiring, hands-on learning pathway for primary school students. The Program Co-Lead develops tools, trainings, and competitions that make agriculture exciting and relevant to young learners, while supporting teachers and school leaders to embed agroecology into everyday learning. This is a highly practical and strategic role that requires creativity, coordination skills, effective program management and a strong commitment to youth development and sustainable agriculture.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Design & Review
- Review and refine the 4K Club implementation model to align with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC)
- Develop a step-by-step school engagement pathway including training content, support tools and structures, and teacher mentorship
- Map out a plan to expand 4K Clubs into new schools, including entry points, needed resources, and scale-up phases
- Work with the Programs and M&E teams to evaluate reach, depth, and sustainability
Training & Support
- Develop and facilitate or coordinate training for 4K Club patrons (teachers), local leaders and school leadership
- Provide guidance on curriculum-aligned agriculture activities and learning pathways
- Mentor school patrons/teachers and provide tools for classroom and extracurricular integration
Club Activation & Motivation
- Encourage peer exchange and school-to-school inspiration via meetings, WhatsApp groups, or forums
- Design and manage intra-school competitions, exhibitions, or awards to energize clubs and school staff
- Roll out new technologies and practices suitable for school gardens and youth learning
Monitoring & Impact Tracking
- Develop simple tracking tools for student participation, school-home technology transfer, skills development, and garden performance
- Gather data and stories of change from schools
- Provide feedback into M&E systems for reflection and planning
Relationship Management & Government Liaison
- Serve as the main contact for school headteachers and sub-county education offices
- Represent SOFDI in local and national 4K Club meetings and working groups
- Align and liaise with the National 4K Club Program, integrating national resources and policies into SOFDI’s approach
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture, Education, Environmental Science, or related field
- 5+ years experience in school-based agriculture or youth programming
- Strong facilitation and training skills in agricultural practices
- Familiarity with Kenya’s CBC and 4K Club structure
- Experience working with government stakeholders at local or national levels
- Strong project design, communication, and planning skills
- Technical skills to faciliate the development, implemenation, and evaluation of the program
