Job Purpose/Objective
The AMO (Aircraft Maintenance Organization) Head of Quality ensures that the AMO and FAMO’s (Foreign Aircraft Maintenance Organization) maintenance activities comply with all applicable aviation regulations, standards, and internal procedures. They are responsible for establishing, maintaining, and continuously improving the Quality Management System (QMS) and ensuring the organization meets the requirements for continued approval by the aviation authority.
KEY RESULT AREAS (Highlighted in bold) NB – Under each key result area, the duty is indicated
1) Oversee AMO Quality Management System.
a) Liaise with the relevant Heads of Departments for matters of quality assurance and control.
b) Prepare and revise internal and external audit schedules in coordination with the AOC Head of Quality.
c) Assesses and coordinates training for internal auditors.
d) Submit all findings from quality audits by external or internal sources to appropriate managers and follow up with reminders to ensure the findings are reviewed promptly by management or the Safety Action Group (SAG) or Safety review board (SRB) as appropriate.
e) Conduct risk analysis and approve corrective action plans in coordination with managers.
f) Reviews all contractor/service level agreements in coordination with managers, so that they are correctly established and that the work performed fulfills contract requirements and will meet quality standards.
g) Manage the Quality feedback system. Ensure findings are reported and sent to appropriate managers for follow up.
h) Liaise with the relevant Heads of Departments for matters of quality assurance and control.
i) j) Attend Safety Action Group or Safety Review Board Meetings as necessary. Responding to external audit findings e.g. from clients, suppliers or authorized interested parties.
2) Review and provide oversight of AMO manuals for compliance.
a) Develop and maintain the Quality Manual.
b) Review of company manuals to ensure compliance with current civil aviation regulations, aircraft & equipment manufacturers’ instructions, company policies, and ground procedures.
c) Maintain the Master Publication Listing for the AMO. d) Distribute manuals in accordance with the distribution list.
e) Prepare and updating of standard practices and procedures for use within the organization.
3) Liaise with the KCAA (Kenya Civil Aviation Authority) in support of AA
a) Liaise with the Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, on behalf of the AA General Manager, in matters regarding the organization’s approval granted by the KCAA.
b) Provide a response to the KCAA surveillance and ad-hoc audits. Assembling documents and submitting them to the KCAA through the KCAA portal as needed.
c) Coordinate and support the AMO certifications renewal and ensure retention of the same.
4) Assist the AMO management with quality review of shop output.
a) Assist in monitoring the management of the AIM AIR maintenance authorization, and approval system to assist in maintaining consistency with regulations and organizational policy.
b) Manages the inspection portion of Aircraft Inspection Work Orders closure.
c) Perform regular verification of accuracy, completion, and proper handling of samples of maintenance records.

Required Qualifications/Experience & Communication Demands
Qualification: Essential
- Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer (AMEL) or Degree/ Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering
- Competent in Microsoft Office programs (especially Office 365) and demonstrated ability to learn new computer programs as needed
- Valid Certificate of Good Conduct (Police Clearance Certificate) Preferred/Desired
- Management Training, supervisory training
- Degree in Aviation Management
- Quality Management Systems (QMS) training from an approved ATO (aviation training organization)
Experience: Essential
Minimum of seven years’ experience in aviation maintenance.
Minimum of three years’ in a Quality department in the aviation industry.
Preferred/Desired
Aviation management experience.
Communication Skills: Essential
- Excellent verbal communication skills in both English and Kiswahili
- Excellent written communication skills in English
- Able to courteously communicate difficult information
- Able to deal with inter-personal conflict effectively
