ABOUT THE COMPANY
The Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS) was founded in 1965 under the Kenya Red Cross Society Act (Chapter 256 Laws of Kenya) and officially acknowledged by the Kenyan government as a voluntary aid society working alongside public authorities. It holds the distinction of being the sole National Red Cross Society in Kenya.
Regarding its relationship with public authorities, KRCS maintains independence, enabling it to operate in alignment with the Fundamental Principles of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Its Constitution is rooted in the Geneva Conventions of 1949 and their Additional Protocols of 1977, to which Kenya is a signatory
JOB SUMMARY
The Coach will be responsible for delivering life-skills clinics, school assemblies, and supporting the planning of major program activities for learners in special and inclusive schools under the Basketball Experience – Disability Inclusion (BE-DI) Project. The Coach will play a central role in inclusive sports programming, ensuring that basketball and life-skills sessions are engaging, adapted, and safe for all participants. They will work closely with Sign Language Interpreters (SLIs) and school P.E teachers to foster an inclusive, empowering learning environment.Minimum Qualifications1-2 years' experience playing Basketball game as a player or coaching.Experience working with children, preferably inclusive or special needs settings.At least 1 year of experience in coaching basketball.Certification in First Aid and Child Safeguarding is an added advantage-not a requirement.Fluency in Kiswahili and English.Knowledge of Kenya Sign Language is a plus.Key CompetenciesStrong facilitation skills and the ability to engage learners with disabilities.Understanding of inclusive sports methodologies and adaptive coaching techniques.Demonstrated ability to maintain discipline, structure, and learner safety.Team-oriented, with excellent collaboration and interpersonal skills.High emotional intelligence, patience, and cultural sensitivity.Commitment to promoting equality, safeguarding, and child-centered learning.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Deliver weekly basketball and life-skills sessions aligned with the BE-DI curriculum.Adapt and modify sports activities to suit learners with visual, hearing, or physical disabilities.Ensure the safety, participation, and emotional well-being of all learners during sessions.Collaborate with SLIs and PE teachers to foster inclusive engagement and communication.Monitor learner attendance and progress; submit session reports to the Project Officer.Support the coordination and execution of inter-school events, including the launch, awareness day, and Final Games.Attend all required training, planning meetings, and performance evaluations.Uphold safeguarding, inclusion, and child protection standards at all times.
