An NGO based in Western Kenya is looking to hire a Bookkeeping & HR Assistant to help support the organisation remotely.

SOFDI is a well-established local NGO working within the farming communities in Vihiga and Kakamega counties. We deliver extensive training on sustainable agricultural to smallholder farmers in order to help improve food security and support livelihoods through nutrition-sensitive and climate-smart farming practices. This is a part-time role (50%) for an experienced bookkeeper to support the program administrators remotely.
The responsibilities of this role include:
- Reconciling bank statements and expense requests electronically in an online accounting software.
- Helping to standardize and facilitate the monthly account review procedures.
- Cross-checking expense requests with supporting receipts and documentation.
- Keeping electronic files organized and updated.
- Managing payroll and statutory deduction calculations and processing respective filings.
- Help ensure compliance with HR requirements and manage staff and other business administration needs.
The ideal candidate would have the following profile:
- Excellent IT Skills and familiarity with cloud-based accounting software (e.g. Zohobooks, Zoho Creator), relational databases, and payroll management tools (e.g. Wingubox).
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
- 5+ years’ practical experience and qualifications in accounting, HR management, business management, and/or a related field.
- Must have a keen eye for detail and discrepancies.
- Analytical mindset, excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Must be resourceful and skilled at finding technical solutions independently.
- Good organizational skills, with the ability to thoroughly document procedures and produce reports.
- Excellent command of MS Office (and Google Suite) applications and ability to deliver consistently standardized document formats.
- Confident and able to deliver presentations, train others, and lead meetings with key stakeholders and farmers.
