General Purpose:
The Building Technician – Staff Housing Engineering is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance, repair, and support tasks related to the structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical systems across all facilities and other assigned operational zones. This includes hands-on work involving plumbing fixtures, lighting systems, sockets, isolators, HVAC support components, doors, windows, tiles, ceilings, and general building infrastructure. The role ensures that all housing units and associated areas are safe, functional, and maintained to the highest standards, directly contributing to the comfort, safety, and well-being of staff members. The technician is expected to remain flexible and responsive to evolving business needs, with the ability to work across different zones, coordinate with other trades, and support multi-disciplinary tasks as required.
Essential Duties & Tasks:
· Conduct regular inspections of staff housing buildings and associated facilities to identify maintenance needs across civil, electrical, mechanical, and structural systems.
· Perform hands-on repairs and maintenance on building infrastructure including plumbing fixtures, electrical components (lights, sockets, isolators, DBs), HVAC support systems, doors, windows, tiles, ceilings, and other architectural elements.
· Respond promptly and professionally to maintenance requests, complaints, and emergency breakdowns, ensuring timely resolution and minimal disruption to residents.
· Coordinate with specialized technicians/trade owners, contractors and vendors for outsourced services such as façade cleaning, waterproofing, rigging point certification, BMU inspections, and pest control.
· Support HVAC and electrical technicians during PPM activities, including filter changes, coil cleaning, fixture replacements, and basic troubleshooting.
· Assist in renovation, refurbishment, and improvement projects, including painting, patching, carpentry, and minor civil works.
· Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, service reports, and job cards using digital or manual systems.
· Monitor and manage inventory of tools, consumables, and spare parts, ensuring availability of essential items and reporting shortages to supervisors.
· Read and interpret basic technical drawings, riser diagrams, and layout plans to support installations and repairs.
· Ensure compliance with safety regulations, permit-to-work procedures, and UAE building codes during all tasks.
· Collaborate with other trades and departments (electrical, HVAC, plumbing, civil, housekeeping) to complete multi-disciplinary tasks efficiently.
· Participate in scheduled audits, inspections, and safety drills as required by the engineering team or HSE department.
· Maintain cleanliness and presentation of common areas, external zones, and service corridors, reporting any hazards or deterioration.
· Remain flexible and available for deployment across different zones or buildings based on operational priorities and business needs.
