About Search Search for Common Ground (Search) is an international conflict transformation NGO that aims to transform the way individuals, groups, governments, and companies deal with conflict, away from adversarial approaches and towards collaborative solutions. Headquartered in Washington DC, USA, and Brussels, Belgium, with field offices in 35 countries, Search designs and implements multifaceted, culturally appropriate, and conflict-sensitive programs using a diverse range of tools, including media and training, to promote dialogue, increase knowledge and determine a positive shift in behaviors.About the projectSearch in partnership with Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), Ijara Women For Peace (IJW) and Kiunga Youth Bunge Initiative (KYBI) are implementing a project which supports improving collaboration and trust between citizens and civilian government representatives in at-risk counties. This 24-month project supported by PREACT- US DEPARTMENT OF STATE – EMBASSY NAIROBI, targets Lamu and Garissa counties and has the overall goal to empower community leaders and relevant government counterparts to jointly address issues of radicalization and terrorist recruitment in at-risk areas of Lamu and Garissa Counties. To achieve this goal, the project has two interrelated objectives: community-led, CVE-relevant support and response structures in at-risk communities in Garissa and Lamu Counties. trust and collaboration between community members and relevant local government and security actors in at-risk areas. About the Small Grants for Community-led Initiatives This project will support approximately 30 (15 in Garissa and 15 in Lamu) locally led community Initiatives to directly address mitigation issues around radicalization and recruitment into Violent Extremists groups. Objective of the Call for Proposals This call intends to support CSOs, CBOs, FBOs and Media houses who will join forces with us in increasing trust between communities and security actors in Garissa and Lamu counties through locally led interventions with two objectives: offer communities and government security actors concrete opportunities to follow up on their commitments, recommendations formulated or solutions identified in previous activities including the town halls. empower communities and authorities to address drivers of Violent Extremism and conflict collaboratively. respond to heightened risks of violence and VE recruitment during this post election period. List of possible activities to be conducted (not exhaustive): •Security actors (ODPP, police and others) set up desks in at-risk communities to provide information to citizens on key issues such as obtaining of National Identity cards•Ad-hoc mediation sessions.•Community Events, forums or Dialogues to address drivers of VE, Radicalization and Recruitment.•Town hall meetings bringing security actors and communities to discuss justice related VE matters Implementation period •Activities to be implemented between April to June 2023 Selection Criteria •Alignment with the objectives of the call for proposals. Priority consideration will be given to proposals which entail collaboration among actors across dividing lines of conflicts.•Clarity, feasibility, and practicality of the proposal regarding its objectives and deliverables.•Gender sensitivity and inclusion: Search will pay specific attention to ensuring a gender balance in terms of the content producers and audience targeted by the proposed content/deliverables.•Be a legally registered entity in Kenya, with operations or audience (if media) in either Lamu or Garissa.• Budget proposal within the range announced in this call for proposals. Budget •Search will fund proposals between Kes 100,000 to Kes 150,000.
