Job Purpose
Talent Grid Africa, on behalf of a client in the shipping and logistics industry, is seeking a highly driven and results-oriented Commercial Manager to lead and grow the company’s sales function within clearing, forwarding, and end-to-end logistics services. This is a sales-focused role responsible for driving revenue growth, securing new business, managing key accounts, and delivering on ambitious commercial targets in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement the Sales Plan with a focus on identifying and securing new customers and developing the revenue of key sectors.
Fully accountable for the delivery of the net revenue via robust field sales and strategically managed existing accounts.
Deliver agreed revenue and objectives on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis, and achieves clients’ KPIs as per set targets.
Establish sales policies, procedures, selling and reporting guidelines to support the sales team within the Division in achieving the objectives set, in growing the organization’s market share and in increasing revenues.
Manage the sales cycle from the contacts stage to the post-closing stage for all sales; ensure all customer requirements are well understood and efficiently responded.
Provides weekly and monthly reports, data, research and market intelligence to the Group Head of Commercial, highlighting business performance, competitive landscape and recommendations.
Reviews and tracks progress against revenue and targets; analyses sales/ revenue reports; recommends and proposes changes to existing plans and operating budgets; implements approved changes
Provide leadership to the sales team; coach, guide, train, develop and support the sales team members in order to achieve sales targets and build a strong brand equity
Work closely with other internal departments and stakeholders through regular meetings to ensure client/ contractual needs and expectations are communicated and met.
Work closely with Business Development team to ensure products that are rolled out meet client needs from a sales perspective.
Works with Finance to ensure all payments are collected within the agreed timelines as per the credit terms of the customer.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Logistics, or a related field.
Diploma in Sales & Marketing is an added advantage.
Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a sales management role within the shipping, logistics, clearing and forwarding industry.
Proven track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets.
Demonstrated experience managing the full sales lifecycle and closing high-value deals.
Strong sales acumen with a proven ability to drive revenue growth.
Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, target-driven environment.
Strong leadership, coaching, and team management capabilities.
Deep understanding of logistics, clearing and forwarding operations.
High level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships.
Self-motivated, results-driven, and resilient under pressure.
