The Eastern Africa Farmers' Federation (EAFF) is a regional farmers' organization whose membership consists of 24 national farmer federations, national co-operative organizations and national commodity associations in ten (10) countries in Eastern Africa - Burundi, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda.


Core Functions / Responsibilities:


1. In close collaboration with the other program officers, coordinate the review, updating and implementation of the EAFF communication and knowledge management strategy

2. Work proactively with EAFF Partners and beneficiaries to help identify opportunities for promoting visibility and sharing knowledge and disseminating information about collaboration and coordination, progress, challenges, lessons learnt, and results of EAFF.

3. Maintaining the EAFF website, which will host Programme information and content, and assist in creating and posting content on relevant EAFF social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and others.

4. Research and communication materials such as press releases, blog posts, factsheets, info sheets, newsletters, podcasts, and other audio visual feature materials, including photos, video and audio among others, for publication in key specialist and general-interest media, and migration platforms and networks within and outside the continent.

5. Monitor print and digital media platforms and provide periodic updates on relevant labour migration issues to EAFF Partners and beneficiaries.

6. Support the EAFF team and partners by coordinating and contributing to the development of quality visibility and promotional materials (e.g. banners and event factsheets, branded t-shirts, calendars, posters, and audio and video knowledge management products) to be used during events.

7. Identify and produce success stories for publications and substantive articles contributing to debates on labour migration issues.

8. Using available technology, set up and maintain a system to curate and retrieve information and knowledge

9. Lay out EAFF reports and publications that correctly reflect Programme and partner branding and supervise outside vendors where such services might be outsourced.

10. Maintain a network of media specialists in Kenya, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), Member States.

11. Organize media engagements, including press conferences and communication events, and coordinate media coverage for major events.

12. Provide logistical and administrative support to the organization of events and undertake field duty travel as needed.

13. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.


Required Qualifications and Experience:


Education


• Master’s degree in Journalism, Mass Media Communications, Public Information, or a related field from an accredited academic institution with two years of relevant professional experience; or

• University degree in the above fields with four years of relevant professional experience.


Experience


• Experience in working with the Agricultural sector and preferably with the non-Governmental organization

• Experience crafting social media campaigns and effective digital strategies.


Skills


• Knowledge of Agriculture

• Excellent writing skills, with the ability to write coherently and concisely, attention to detail and ability to translate complex/technical policy text into easily accessible content to non-specialist audiences (finalists will be asked to complete a writing and/or editing exercise);

• Proven ability to be part of a fast-moving, culturally dynamic environment and work effectively under pressure and within tight deadlines on multiple projects;

• Flexible and able to work both independently and collegially in a team environment;

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe CS/CC Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, and Premier Pro in particular).

• Experience dealing with print, digital and broadcast journalists, bookers, and producers;

• Knowledge of graphic design, web, social media, and video production;

• Proficiency with multimedia editing software;

• Demonstrated organizational and interpersonal skills;

• Substantive editing and copy-editing skills;

• Strategic and creative mindset with a meticulous attention to detail.


Languages


EAFF’s official languages are English and French, External applicants for all positions in the Professional category are required to be proficient in English and have at least a working knowledge French,

For all applicants, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of French is an advantage.
