Requirements for Construction Project Coordinator Role

The Construction Project Coordinator at SOFDI will be instrumental in overseeing and facilitating the successful implementation of both the School Kitchen Construction Project and the Spring Protection Project. This position requires a dynamic individual of high integrity standards capable of managing multiple aspects of construction projects, from the project inception through to completion, ensuring they align with our shared goals and serve the intended purpose.


Key Responsibilities:

1. Project Management and Oversight:

Coordinate all phases of construction projects, including planning, execution, monitoring, documentation and closure.

Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Develop a plan of action to achieve each expansion project’s objectives. 


2. Collaboration and Coordination:

Work closely with the architect and construction team based on need provided prompt feedback for further changes or improvements.

Act as a liaison between SOFDI management, stove teams, school officials, and other  government entities as guided.


3. Management Reporting:

Regularly update on project progress and any challenges encountered.

Document data, photos and share reports on each individual project as guided.

Organize and lead meetings to gather feedback and discuss project improvements.


4. Procurement and Logistics:

Submit quotations and develop a pricelist to guide the procurement process.

Prepare and oversee project budgets, ensuring optimal use of resources.

Identify and procure construction materials that are both cost-effective and sustainable.

Manage logistics to ensure timely delivery and storage of materials.

Develop systems and tools to manage material inventory at school level.

Work with the finance team to ensure all financial transactions and procurements are transparent and accountable.


5. Quality Control and Site Management:

Oversee construction sites to ensure safety standards and regulatory compliance are maintained.

Prepare regular inspections and coordinate with quality control teams to address any issues promptly.


6. Training and Capacity Building:

Develop training programs for local workers and apprentices in construction techniques and project management.

Enhance the skills of junior members within the spring protection program, preparing them for leadership roles.


Required Experience & Qualifications

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.

At least 5 years of experience in construction project management, with a preference for experience in sustainable or community-focused projects.

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and adaptability.
  • Having a high level of integrity and transparency. 
  • Resourceful and conscientious in managing organizational resources. 
  • Commitment to SOFDI’s mission and community development.


Additional Considerations

The Construction Project Coordinator will need to be flexible with travel requirements, as the projects span several locations in Kakamega and Vihiga counties. Proficiency in both English and the local language is highly desirable to facilitate communication with local teams and community stakeholders.
