UNEP’s Communication Division plays a key role in raising environmental awareness, strengthening public engagement, and amplifying UNEP’s global visibility. Through strategic communication, digital storytelling, and multilingual outreach, the Division promotes environmental action and supports engagement with audiences across the world.
The Digital Media Translator/Editor – French will be based in Nairobi and will support UNEP’s French-language digital communications and outreach efforts. The role combines expertise in translation, digital media, web content, and social media engagement to strengthen UNEP’s communication with French-speaking audiences globally.
Key Responsibilities
1. Web Content & Translation
- Translate stories, press releases, speeches, and publications from English to French.
- Proofread and edit French-language web content to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Update and maintain content on UNEP’s French-language website.
- Review existing French-language website sections and recommend revisions where needed.
2. Social Media & Digital Engagement
- Support implementation of social media strategies targeting French-speaking audiences.
- Translate and adapt digital content, including graphics and videos, for French-language platforms.
- Manage and maintain UNEP’s French-language social media channels.
- Engage with French-speaking audiences and promote UNEP campaigns and messages.
- Analyse social media statistics and adjust content strategies to maximize reach and engagement.
3. Communication & Outreach Support
- Support communication requests related to French-speaking audiences and official engagements.
- Contribute to outreach activities, events, and communication campaigns.
- Participate in Communication Division trainings, meetings, and workshops.
- Stay updated on emerging digital communication and translation technologies.
4. Volunteerism & Knowledge Sharing
- Contribute articles and stories highlighting volunteer experiences and environmental action.
- Support awareness of volunteerism and online volunteering opportunities.
- Assist in onboarding and supporting newly arrived UN Volunteers where relevant.
Profile Required
Experience
Minimum 3 years relevant experience, including:
- Translation, editing, digital media, or strategic communications
- Managing websites and social media platforms
- Content creation and audience engagement for digital platforms
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural and multidisciplinary environment
- Strong understanding of social media trends and strategic communication approaches
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Linguistics, Translation, or related field.
Languages
- Fluent English
- Fluent French
