Requirement for the ECD School Feeding Program Officer
The ECD School Feeding Program Officer will support the implementation, monitoring, and coordination of the ECDE
Soya-Maize Premix School Feeding Program, which aims to improve the nutritional status, health, and educational outcomes of ECDE learners. This will be achieved by ensuring that learners consume a nutrient-rich soya-maize premix porridge daily.
The officer will work closely with schools, communities, county government departments, and project teams to ensure effective program delivery, monitoring, and long-term sustainability.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
a. Nutrition and Health Support
- Analyze nutrition-related data and prepare reports to support program decision-making.
- Conduct nutrition education and behavior change sessions for teachers, parents, caregivers, and community members.
- Promote appropriate child feeding practices, hygiene, sanitation, and health interventions within schools and communities.
- Provide technical support on nutrition-related issues affecting learners and schools.
- Conduct follow-ups and program monitoring as a key implementation component
- Coordinate and participate in nutrition assessments and growth monitoring activities among ECDE learners as per the project demand.
b. School Feeding Program Implementation
- Support the implementation and coordination of the ECDE Locally grown Soya-Maize Premix School Feeding Program across target schools.
- Guide teachers on proper preparation, storage, utilization, and handling of the soya-maize premix in accordance with food safety standards.
- Monitor meal quality, hygiene, and adherence to established feeding schedules and program guidelines.
- Work closely with ECDE teachers, cooks, and school management committees to strengthen program effectiveness.
- Conduct routine follow-up visits and provide technical support to participating schools.
c. Community and Agricultural Linkages
- Strengthening integration between nutrition, agriculture and food systems interventions within the project.
- Participate in farmer engagement activities and support promotion of household food production, kitchen gardening, and dietary diversification initiatives.
- Facilitate nutrition messaging during community meetings, parent sensitization forums, and farmer training.
- Support linkages between local soya growers, schools, and other stakeholders to enhance sustainability of the locally grown feeding model.
d. Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning and Reporting
- Coordinate routine data collection, verification, and management using approved monitoring tools.
- Maintain and regularly update program databases and reporting systems.
- Prepare weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual reports on program implementation and nutrition outcomes.
- Document success stories, lessons learned, innovations, and best practices for knowledge sharing & program improvement.
- Support monitoring and evaluation activities, surveys, assessments, and stakeholder reporting requirements.
e. Capacity Building and Coordination
- Facilitate training and mentorship sessions for teachers, cooks, school administrators, parents, and community stakeholders.
- Participate in stakeholder coordination meetings, planning sessions, and program review forums.
- Collaborate with county government departments, development partners, and community structures to strengthen program implementation.
- Provide technical guidance and support to project staff and field teams as required.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nutrition and Dietetics, Food Science, Public Health Nutrition, Community Nutrition, or a related field with at least 3years Experience. Diploma with at least 5 Years experience might be considered.
- Knowledge of child nutrition, school feeding programs, and community-based nutrition interventions are an added advantage.
- Experience in data collection, analysis, reporting, and program monitoring with the ability to transform data into actionable decisions and interventions.
- Strong communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated professionalism, integrity, and respect for community values.
- Willingness to travel frequently and work within community and school settings.
