Reports to: Effluent Treatment Supervisor


Context/Scope:


ETP Operators are responsible for operating and maintaining the Effluent Treatment Plant at the Client Site. They ensure compliance with all environmental, health, and safety standards related to the Client Effluent Treatment Plant and the overall site. The role reports to the Client Utilities and Facilities Manager.


Purpose of Role:


The role is responsible for operating and maintaining the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) to ensure effective treatment of all effluent generated from the Client Plant in compliance with the required regulatory and company standards.


Additionally, the role is accountable for maintaining all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) aspects associated with the Client Effluent Treatment Plant and the entire Client site.


Financial:


The financial scope of the role includes ensuring the optimized and cost-effective operation of the Effluent Treatment Plant, as well as contributing to and positively influencing the site’s environmental KPIs.


 


Complexity: In general, it works in accordance with the Standard Operating Practices (SOPs) relevant to the designated role. Ensures that the plant is maintained with respect to output, hygiene, quality analysis, and routine maintenance, seeking periodic support when required.


In the event of a plant breakdown, assesses the nature of the issue and either restores normal operations independently or collaborates with specialists to reinstate efficient functioning of the effluent treatment plant, following the escalation matrix strictly.

Top Accountabilities:



  • Operate the effluent treatment plant (ETP) efficiently and in compliance with established procedures.
  • Report daily performance metrics of the ETP.
  • Inspect plant conditions and hygiene standards to ensure consistent reliability and operational integrity.
  • Perform scheduled autonomous maintenance activities on the ETP.
  • Conduct influent and effluent chemical analysis, recommend corrective actions where necessary, prepare daily/weekly reports, update SIC records, monitor and control equipment, calculate KPIs, and attend tier meetings.
  • Carry out daily environmental, health, and safety (EHS) audits.
  • Collect, document, process, archive, and share daily operational information with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure the safety of self, colleagues, products, equipment, and the environment at all times.
  • Align daily and weekly operational plans with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in departmental best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Adhere strictly to Client escalation procedures during downtimes.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures.
  • Comply with Client Safe Systems of Work and contribute to ongoing improvements.
  • Support quality assurance activities and collaborate with the Quality team on analysis, deviations, and process improvements.
  • Execute preventive and corrective maintenance activities, including CILT (Clean, Inspect, Lubricate & Tag) and autonomous maintenance tasks


Qualifications and Experience Required



  • Engineers: Minimum Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Electronics, or Diploma in Water Engineering with 3 years’ experience in ETP.
  • Analysts: Minimum bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Biochemistry, or Environmental Science.
  • Experience: At least two years of relevant experience in a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) environment.
