ABOUT THE COMPANY

Ngorongo Tea Factory, established in 1965, is a proudly Kenyan-owned enterprise located in the prime tea-growing region of the Kenyan highlands near Limuru. Known for its favorable climate, the factory launched the Kenfresh tea brand in 2003, diversifying its product line with puchets, sachets, and tea bags through its subsidiary, Ngorongo Tea Packers.
In 2021, Ngorongo Tea Factory expanded its offerings by introducing Ginger tea, further enhancing its brand. Although a significant portion of its tea is sold in bulk at the Mombasa Auction, Ngorongo tea is well-regarded in international markets, including Pakistan, the UK, Egypt, the US, and the Middle East.

JOB SUMMARY

The Extension Services Assistant provides technical and administrative support to the Extension Services Section with a strong foundation in agronomy. The role supports farmer outreach, field activities, agronomic data collection, and capacity-building programs aimed at improvingtea production, soil health, and sustainable farming practices. The position ensures efficient coordination of extension activities and professional engagement with farmers and stakeholders.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Coordinate and accompany the Extension Services Officer on farm visits to guide farmers on tea husbandry, soil fertility, pest and disease control, and sustainable agronomic practices.2. Receive, document, and track farmer inquiries, offering preliminary agronomic advice and ensuring timely follow-up and resolution.3. Assist in conducting field demonstrations on recommended agricultural practices, fertilizer application, planting techniques, and environmental conservation.4. Support the planning, organizing, and facilitation of farmer training sessions on Good Agricultural Practices (GAPs), climate-smart agriculture, soil health management, and pest/disease control.5. Prepare and distribute training materials, registration lists, handouts, and equipment needed for farmer education activities.6. Collect and maintain accurate field data, including soil condition observations, crop health assessments, pest infestation reports, and yield estimates.7. Compile, digitize, and securely store extension records, ensuring easy retrieval and accurate reporting.8. Assist in monitoring the adoption of recommended agronomic practices by farmers and documenting progress.9. Prepare draft extension reports summarizing field activities, farmer interactions, agronomic findings, challenges, and recommendations for review by the Extension Services Officer.10. Facilitate effective communication between farmers, factory departments, and external stakeholders to enhance agronomic knowledge flow.11. Assist in coordinating and participating in community forums, workshops, and sensitization meetings promoting sustainable tea production and environmental stewardship.12. Support collaboration with agricultural institutions, service providers, and government agencies working on crop improvement and farmer support programs.13. Assist in educating farmers on soil conservation, water management, climate adaptation practices, and compliance with environmental and factory standards.14. Help monitor farms for adherence to sustainability requirements and document findings.15. Perform any other lawful duties assigned to support the effective functioning of the Extension Services Section.
