The Fiber Optic Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of GPON fiber infrastructure and customer premises equipment across Kwiqsurf's coverage areas. The role requires hands-on field work, careful handling of optical equipment, and direct interaction with customers during installations and service call-outs.

Key Responsibilities

• Install fiber drops, ONUs/Wireless AP, and associated CPE at customer premises in line with company standards.

• Perform fiber splicing, termination, and optical signal testing (power meter, OTDR readings) to confirm link quality.

• Troubleshoot and resolve customer connectivity faults, including ONU/ wireless AP provisioning issues and signal degradation.

• Carry out preventive maintenance on distribution boxes/FATs, splitters, and aerial fiber routes.

• Escalate OLT-side or core network faults to the Network Operations team with accurate diagnostic notes.

• Maintain accurate records of installations, materials used, and job completion reports.

• Ensure proper handling, storage, and accountability of company tools and equipment issued for fieldwork.

• Observe safety procedures when working at height, near roads, or with optical/electrical equipment.

• Provide clear, professional communication to customers during site visits.

• Support new site surveys and network expansion rollouts as required.

Qualifications & Experience

• Diploma or certificate in Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Telecommunications, or a related field.

• At least 1–2 years' hands-on experience with GPON/FTTH installation and fiber splicing.

• Familiarity with ONU/ONT/wireless AP equipment, optical test tools, and basic router/CPE configuration is an added advantage.

• Valid driving license preferred, given the field-based nature of the role.

• KPLC class 14 will be an added advantage.

• Strong practical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.

• Attention to detail, particularly around splicing quality and signal loss.

• Good customer-facing communication and professionalism.

• Ability to work independently across multiple sites with minimal supervision.

• Physical fitness for fieldwork, including climbing poles and working outdoors.
