Fleet Manager - Akuka Cabs

Responsibilities

• Manage daily fleet operations and ensure vehicles remain operational.
• Monitor vehicle utilization, performance, and downtime.
• Ensure drivers make agreed daily or weekly payments on time.
• Follow up on missed payments, arrears, and outstanding driver obligations.
• Recruit, onboard, assign, and manage drivers.
• Monitor driver performance, conduct, and adherence to company policies.
• Resolve driver-related issues and operational escalations.
• Coordinate servicing, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance.
• Follow up with garages and mechanics to minimize vehicle downtime.
• Conduct regular vehicle inspections and monitor vehicle condition.
• Maintain accurate records of fleet revenue, expenses, maintenance, and vehicle activity.
• Track vehicle and driver documents and ensure they remain valid and compliant.
• Manage accidents, fines, insurance claims, and other vehicle-related incidents.
• Coordinate with garages, insurers, tracking providers, and other suppliers.
• Identify opportunities to reduce fleet costs and improve revenue.
• Prepare regular fleet performance reports for management.
• Support vehicle recovery, reassignment, and driver replacement when necessary.

Requirements

• Previous experience in fleet management, transport, logistics, vehicle operations, or a related role.
• Experience managing drivers or field-based teams.
• Good understanding of vehicle maintenance and basic automotive issues.
• Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and people-management skills.
• Ability to follow up firmly and professionally on payments and operational issues.
• Good record-keeping and reporting skills.
• Comfortable using digital systems and fleet management software.
• High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of results.
• Experience in ride-hailing, taxi, car leasing, or transport operations will be an added advantage.

The Fleet Manager will be measured on:

• Vehicle uptime and utilization.
• Driver payment collection rates.
• Reduction of payment arrears.
• Maintenance and repair turnaround time.
