About the Role
We are seeking a highly analytical and strategic General Manager – Agricultural Economics to lead the economic planning, financial analysis and commercial performance of our agricultural operations in Murang'a.
The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in coffee, avocado, livestock, and other agribusiness value chains by driving profitability, operational efficiency, and sustainable growth through data-driven decision making.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the planning, monitoring and evaluation of agricultural operations and commercial performance.
• Analyse coffee, avocado, livestock and other agricultural value chains to identify opportunities for profitability, value addition and growth.
• Develop and monitor annual budgets, forecasts, financial models and long-term agricultural business plans.
• Monitor production costs, input prices, revenues, margins and key operational indicators, recommending appropriate corrective actions.
• Conduct market research covering commodity prices, consumer trends, export markets, competitors and emerging commercial opportunities.
• Develop business cases and investment proposals for agritourism, regenerative agriculture, value addition and new agricultural ventures.
• Monitor and advise management on emerging agricultural trends and technologies, including Black Soldier Fly (BSF) farming, precision agriculture, climate-smart agriculture, agroforestry, controlled environment farming, circular agriculture and agricultural waste valorisation.
• Work closely with Farm Managers to improve productivity, resource utilisation, cost efficiency and
overall farm performance. • Develop management dashboards and timely economic, financial and operational reports for senior management.
• Identify and assess opportunities to increase revenue, reduce costs and improve return on investment.
• Ensure compliance with applicable agricultural, environmental and statutory requirements.
• Lead, mentor and develop staff while promoting accountability, performance and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics, Agribusiness Management, Economics, Agriculture or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ progressive experience in agricultural economics, agribusiness, commercial farming or agricultural operations, including leadership responsibility.
• Practical experience in coffee, horticulture, avocado, livestock or mixed farming operations.
• Strong experience in budgeting, financial modelling, forecasting, cost analysis and business performance management.
• Strong knowledge of agricultural markets, value chains and commercial farm management.
• Good knowledge of emerging agricultural trends, technologies and alternative agribusiness models, including BSF farming, regenerative and climate-smart agriculture, precision farming, agroforestry, controlled-environment agriculture and agricultural waste valorisation.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and data analysis/reporting tools.
• Excellent leadership, communication, analytical, stakeholder management and report-writing skills.
