General Manager - Drilling & Infrastructure

Geothermal Development Company’s formation is a result of the enactment of the Energy Act No. 12 of 2006, after the adoption of Sessional Paper No. 4 on Energy in 2004 that unbundled the country’s energy sector into five sub-sectors: generation, transmission, distribution, regulation and policy. GDC is in the generation sub-sector.
The Company seeks to recruit top talent to complement the current team in implementing its mandate for the following positions:
Job Title: Manager – Drilling Operations (1 Post)

Terms of Employment: Five (5) Year Contract, renewable subject to satisfactory performance.
Job Grade: GDC 3
Department: Drilling Operations
Reports To: General Manager - Drilling & Infrastructure
Salary Range: KES 220,000 – KES 330,000 per month.
Job Description
Duties and responsibilities will entail:

1. 
   
2. Aligning departmental strategic goals and objectives with the company’s strategic goals and objectives and ensure implementation for achievement of the company’s mandate.
   
3. Setting departmental performance targets and work plans in line with the department’s performance targets and ensuring their achievement.
   
4. Development and monitoring of the department’s annual budget and procurement plan and monitor for effective and efficient delivery of drilling operations.
   
5. Providing leadership on staffing, development and performance management programs while ensuring staff are motivated for good team performance.
   
6. Spearheading support negotiations and building of relationship with external service providers to the benefit of the company’s image, cost and long-term support on material and service delivery.
   
7. Overseeing the establishment and implementation of a sound risk management system within the department.
   
8. Ensuring the drilling operation is on schedule and the well orientation and azimuth is as targeted.
   

Person Specifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -

1. 
   
2. A minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant work experience, four (4) years of which should have in a management role.
   
3. Master’s Degree in a relevant field from a recognized institution.
   
4. Bachelor’s Degree in any of the following Engineering fields: - Mechanical, Civil, Electrical and Electronics, Agricultural, Mining Engineering, Energy/Geothermal/ Drilling Technology, or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
   
5. Management course lasting not more than four (4) weeks.
   
6. Registered Professional by Engineers Board of Kenya/ Kenya Engineering Technology Registration Board or equivalent.
   
7. Proficiency in computer applications.
   
8. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter 6 of the constitution of Kenya.
