The Graduate Registered Nurse assists in the process which ensures that patient care is delivered in accordance with established corporate wide policies and procedures, nursing standards, guidelines and protocols, and the HMC Code of Professional Behaviour and Ethics for Nurses and Midwives. She/he provides education to patients and staff based on theoretical and clinical expertise. This position is accountable to provide high quality patient care during her/his duty hours.
Managerial/Leadership
- Delegates appropriate tasks.
- Leads the care of a group of patients.
- Manages their own workload and reports variations as appropriate.
- Creates an environment that enables patients and colleagues to feel secure.
- Places the well-being of the patient at the centre of all activities
Clinical Practice
- Provides patient centred care.
- Plans and prioritizes nursing care according to identified problems.
- Follows patient safety standards.
- Follows HMC’s policies and procedures.
- Identifies and reports incidents through the safety reporting system.
- Assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care and planning for discharge.
- Demonstrates knowledge of emergency codes, resuscitation policies and the disaster plan; and acts appropriately.
- Demonstrates collaborative multidisciplinary partnership towards achievement of optimum patient outcomes.
- Reports equipment failure and equipment in need of maintenance.
- Maintains clean and safe environment, reports any safety or security issues using appropriate chain of command.
- Orientates patient and family to the unit.
- Understands quality improvement methodologies.
- Utilizes effective and appropriate communication tools.
Research & Evidence based practice
- Reviews literature related to practice and discusses with colleagues.
- Practices nursing within the scope of practice based on standards.
- Attends evidence based practice workshops/classes.
- Education, Learning and Development
- Undertakes continuing education at a minimum compliant with the
- Supreme Council of Health requirements for relicensure.
- Participates in the orientation of new graduate registered nurses/students/interns/registered nurses.
- Competent in using hospital IT systems.
- Seeks out and participates in educational activities related to their scope of practice.
- Develops and sustains personal and professional knowledge/skills, maintaining a professional portfolio.
Essential Education:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (or in the field of health practice e.g. Mental Health) or equivalent health related degree
Required certification/licensure:
- Valid nursing license from the country of origin AND be eligible for license in the Supreme Council for Health State of Qatar
- Relevant life support/resuscitation certificates preferred, but there will opportunity to undertake as part of orientation
Essential Experience:
- A minimum of 2 Years recent clinical experience in a relevant nursing field.
Language Skills:
- English – reading, writing, spoken – proficient (essential)
- Arabic (preferred)
Computer Skills:
- Competent IT skills that enable online literature searching, and presentation of feedback/learning to peers using powerpoint and/or word programs.
