Job Summary/Purpose
The Jobholder is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing human rights strategies, policies, and programs to ensure organizational compliance with international human rights standards and relevant laws. The role involves risk assessment, stakeholder engagement, monitoring, advocacy, and capacity building to promote and protect human rights across the Kenyan Operations and partnerships.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Conduct human rights impact assessments (HRIAs) and risk analyses across projects, supply chains, or programs.
● Develop and action plan for implementing the HRIA report , monitor and report progress of implementation.
● Integrate human rights considerations into organizational strategies, operations, and decision-making processes.
● Identify, mitigate, and monitor human rights risks, including labor rights, discrimination, and community impacts.
● Periodic review of the grievance mechanisms and oversee remediation processes where violations occur.
● Monitor compliance with human rights commitments, policies, and legal requirements.
● Prepare internal and external reports, including sustainability, ESG, donor, or regulatory reports.
● Track performance indicators and continuously improve human rights programs
● Represent the organization in human rights forums, working groups, and multi-stakeholder initiatives.
● Design and deliver human rights training for staff, management, and partners
● Build internal awareness and accountability around human rights responsibilities
● Provide technical guidance and support to teams across all our farms
● Support /lead investigations into alleged human rights violations related to organizational activities and coordinate corrective actions / remediation plans.
QUALIFICATION /KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
▪ Bachelor’s degree in Human Rights, Law, International Relations or Social Sciences
▪ Over 5 years of progressive experience in human rights, compliance, ESG, CSR, or related fields.
▪ Demonstrated experience conducting human rights impact assessments or due diligence.
▪ Strong knowledge of international human rights frameworks and labor standards
▪ Proven stakeholder engagement and negotiation abilities
▪ Strong leadership, project management, and problem-solving skills
▪ High ethical standards and cultural sensitivity.
