Vacancy Announcement: ICU Nurse

About Matibabu Foundation: Matibabu Foundation is a registered health facility and community health organization based in Siaya County, Kenya. Our mandate is to improve the quality, affordability, and accessibility of healthcare, with a particular focus on women, children, and families. We achieve this through integrated facility-based care, outreach programmes, laboratory, and pharmaceutical services.
Job Purpose: To provide comprehensive, high-quality critical care nursing services to patients admitted in the Intensive Care Unit by assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating individualized patient care while collaborating with multidisciplinary healthcare teams to improve patient outcomes.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Monitor, assess, and document critically ill patients’ conditions and vital signs continuously.
- Administer prescribed medications, intravenous therapies, and specialized treatments accurately and safely.
- Operate and monitor ICU equipment including ventilators, infusion pumps, cardiac monitors, and oxygen therapy devices.
- Provide emergency interventions and life-saving procedures during critical situations.
- Collaborate with doctors, anesthetists, clinical officers, and other healthcare professionals in patient management.
- Maintain accurate patient records, nursing notes, and treatment charts in compliance with hospital standards.
- Ensure strict infection prevention and control measures within the ICU environment.
- Educate and support patients’ families regarding patient conditions, procedures, and recovery plans.
- Participate in ward rounds, clinical audits, continuous medical education (CME), and quality improvement initiatives.
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and accountability of drugs, medical supplies, and ICU equipment.
- Uphold patient confidentiality, professional ethics, and nursing standards at all times.
- Respond promptly to emergencies and provide basic and advanced life support when required.

Qualifications and Requirements
- Diploma or Bachelor of Science in Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Valid practicing license from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
- Higher Diploma/Certification in Critical Care Nursing or Intensive Care Nursing will be an added advantage.
- Valid Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Proficiency in computer applications and electronic medical record systems is desirable.
Experience
- Minimum of 2–3 years’ experience in a busy ICU, HDU, Emergency Department, or critical care setting.
- Experience handling ventilated and critically ill patients is highly desirable.
- Previous experience in a Level 4 or Level 5 hospital setting will be an added advantage.
