IMS Core Engineer

Tangent International are urgently looking for a IMS Core Engineer (preferably ZTE product) to work a 6 month rolling contract based in Kenya (Nairobi)

Job Description

Domain:

• IMS Core Hands-on experience (preferably ZTE product) for more than 5 years in production environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor, operate, and maintain IMS network elements including CSCF, SBC, MGCF, TAS, ENUM, MSS, MGW, HLR, HSS, EIR, STP, SPS, DRA.
• Perform routine health checks and preventive maintenance to ensure high availability and network stability.
• Analyze alarms, logs, KPIs, and performance counters to proactively identify and mitigate potential issues.
• Handle L2 level network faults and incidents, troubleshoot major and minor alarms, and restore services within defined SLAs.
• Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for recurring, critical, or high-impact network issues and implement corrective actions.
• Escalate complex or critical problems to vendor support teams (Nokia, Ericsson, Huawei, ZTE) and coordinate end-to-end resolution.
• Support integration and commissioning of new IMS nodes, ensuring configurations comply with approved network design.
• Execute change requests, software upgrades, patches, and configuration changes during scheduled maintenance windows.
• Ensure seamless VoLTE and CSFB interoperability with EPC and IMS layers.
• Monitor voice quality, traffic trends, and service KPIs to maintain network performance and customer experience.
• Propose and implement optimization initiatives to enhance CS Core and IMS performance.

Technical Knowledge & Skills

• Strong understanding of IMS & CS core architecture and interworking across 2G / 3G / 4G / 5G networks.
• In-depth knowledge of VoLTE, CS Fallback (CSFB), SRVCC.
• Proficiency in IMSI analysis and signaling troubleshooting.
• Strong knowledge of signalling protocols:

SS7, MAP, ISUP, SIP, MGCP, BICC

Experience with OSS and monitoring tools such as:

• Wireshark, Nokia NetAct, ZTE NetNumen
• Basic understanding of EPC and IMS architecture for cross-domain voice issue troubleshooting.
• Working knowledge of CLI environments and Linux/Unix scripting for log analysis and operational automation.
