Job Description/Requirements

Interior Perspective Ltd under the brand name Interior Perspective Studio is an architectural and design studio in Nairobi, Kenya that provides end to end services from design, planning, implementation, furnishing and decorating of residential, commercial, retail and hospitality spaces. The company is driven by a deep passion to articulate client’s unique stories with intuitive and timeless places. It seeks to hire an Interior Design Project Manager to oversee various administrative and design aspects of an interior design project. The position reports to the Creative Director.


Job Purpose

The Interior Design Project Manager will be responsible for undertaking and overseeing interior design projects in the company from Pre-Design, Conceptual Design, Detailed Design Development, Construction Documents and Construction Administration. He/she will be responsible for engaging clients to clarify the scope and specifications of the project, determining the project budget and goals for the space in liaison with the Director, planning delivery timelines, mobilizing the team and resources required to deliver high quality project designs; on-time, on/under-budget, and meets IPS’s quality standards. 


Duties and Responsibilities

1. Concept and Detailed Design Development:

i. Engage with clients to understand the scope of work, develop briefs and hand sketches of interior architectural and Furniture, Fixture & Equipment ideas that work to meet intended design goal, articulate ‘why concepts work’ to the team, develop a detailed project schedule and budget to facilitate commencement of the project.

ii. Develop construction documents, specifications, production detailed working design drawings including detailed floor plans, elevations and sections that communicate the design intent.

iii. Select and specify all materials and finishes to be used in the project.


2. Trades Management:

i. Take the ‘lead of the project’ role and serve as a primary point of contact with vendors and service/specialized contractors including Architects, Engineers, Contractors, Suppliers, Signage Contractors though out the duration of a project by participating in group conversations as a valuable member, lending feedback, troubleshooting, brainstorming, offering technical information that is well founded utilizing knowledge of Design Industry trends and approaches.  

ii. Makes sure all meetings are documented with meeting minutes and copied to all members involved in process.

iii. Holds trades accountable to deliver quality work performed in a way that is consistent with IPS documentation, by following through on all potential problems, quality issues, fabrication problems until they are resolved 100%.


3. Project and Team Management: 

i. Manage day-to-day operations of the project site, including on-site staff and subcontractors through the Project Coordinators and oversee all Project Coordinators duties. 

ii. Ensure project deliverables are met; timely completion, maximum quality and efficiency, prepare project progress and completion reports, conduct quality control inspections and stakeholder management and engagement to meet expectations.

iii. Responsible for the Professional growth of the team through; effective communication, leadership on the projects, problem solving, providing guidance on project execution and holding the team accountable. 


Required Skills and Qualification:

i. Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Interior Design or Architecture.

ii. Minimum 5 years professional experience in Interior Design, with a focus on Project Management.

iii. Ability to create detailed floor plans, elevation and sections.

iv. Proficient in ArchiCAD / AutoCAD and Photoshop/Illustrator/InDesign. 

v. Strong communication, presentation, and organizational skills.

vi. Familiarity with furniture, finishes and materials.

vii. Construction Knowledge.

v. Has a well-developed eye for scale and balance, designing elements that ‘fit’ the space for maximum impact.

vi. In depth knowledge of the major manufacturers and their products, fabrication techniques, finish requirements and ability to deliver quality products on schedule and per budget. 

vii. Highly skilled in design selection of: Lighting, Carpets, Fabrics, Flooring, Wallcovering and has an in depth knowledge of process and procedures to insure Manufacturers interpretations of our designs meet IPS level of intended quality, is delivered on time, within budget  and meets operational levels of durability. 

viii. Is an expert at reviewing drawings and samples to ensure drawings and finishes match IPS specifications.

ix. Can quickly locate and select items due to in depth knowledge of products and vendors.

x. Has proven capability to troubleshoot problems on site and make quality recommendations to correct and move project forward without compromising design intent.  Ability to hand sketch solutions on site that take into consideration all the areas that will be impacted by changes applying sound critical-thinking skills.
