Job summary

Pebble + Stem Farms brings over 70 years of local agriculture to our latest venture. We supply reliably fresh oyster mushrooms to chefs, retailers, and distributors in and around Nairobi. We cultivate in controlled rooms, chill immediately after harvest, and deliver on a predictable schedule—so your par levels stay covered without scramble.

Job descriptions & requirements

Role purpose

Support production output and reliability by handling routine tasks, covering absences, and scaling capacity as volume increases—while following cleanliness rules and completing records.

Reports to
Lead Mushroom Production Operator (day-to-day). Works under the Consultant/Trainer during onboarding.

Key responsibilities

A) Production support

- Assist with substrate handling, bag prep, pasteurization support, moving/cohort handling. - Assist with fruiting room tasks: watering/misting per SOP (if applicable), monitoring, harvesting support.

B) Packing & dispatch - Pack mushrooms to spec, label correctly, keep packing area clean, assist with dispatch preparation.

C) Cleaning & sanitation - Daily clean-downs, tool washing (room-dedicated), floor/bench cleaning, waste handling.

D) Records

- Fill simple checklists: cleaning logs, harvest weights, batch movement logs (as assigned).

E) Relief coverage - Be available to cover the Lead Operator’s off-days/absences (especially harvest and dispatch days). - Cross-train into key stages over time (clean-core tasks only after demonstrated hygiene discipline).

Required skills / attributes

- Follows instructions precisely; reliable attendance. - Good hygiene habits and attention to cleanliness. - Physical stamina; comfortable with repetitive tasks. - Willingness to keep records and follow routines. - Prior farming/food handling helpful but not required.



Training & onboarding

The assistant is expected to become reliable on cleaning/production processes/packing/harvest first, then cross-train into more sensitive stages. Training Period: 90 Days


Performance standards (KPIs)
- Attendance & punctuality.
- Cleaning tasks completed to standard (verified by Lead).
- Accurate packing/labeling (no mix-ups).
- Logs completed correctly for assigned tasks.
Training Conditions:

- Probation: First 3 months (training period).
 - Continued employment depends on meeting hygiene, routine-following, and recordkeeping standards. 
- Skill step-ups (optional): Salary review after cross-training into sensitive stages (e.g., clean-core tasks) and demonstrating consistent compliance. 
- Attendance incentive (available): For zero unapproved absences and punctuality. 
- Overtime / extra days: Paid according to Kenya labour requirements and company policy. 
- Statutory & workplace benefits: [NSSF/SHIF/other] as applicable; PPE provided. - Leave: Annual leave/public holidays per law and company policy.
