The Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi is seeking a Management Trainee – Partnerships & Engagement for their Aspire Future Leaders Programme, a fast-track twelve-month job rotation placement, which serves as a catalyst for career development.
The management trainee will be expected to support the development, coordination, stewardship, and visibility of the Global Engagement Office’s partnership portfolio and stakeholder engagement activities across East Africa. The role contributes to the identification and advancement of collaboration opportunities, supports relationship management with institutional and strategic partners, facilitates engagement across AKU and AKDN entities, and assists with the planning and coordination of partnership-related initiatives, visits, and activities that advance the University’s global engagement objectives.
The programme serves as a strategic talent pipeline, aimed at nurturing future leaders by immersing participants in meaningful, real-world work and cross-functional learning experiences
The components of the programme have been weaved together such that our trainees emerge with valuable insights, the ‘know-how’ to deliver, and confidence to make meaningful decisions pertaining to their future careers.
The programme includes global exposure, mentorship, leadership networking opportunities and customized learning and development opportunities.

Responsibilities
Partnership Portfolio Management & Reporting
- Maintain partnership databases, trackers, action logs, and records
- Monitor ongoing partnership discussions, commitments, and follow-up actions.
- Support partnership reporting, data collection exercises, and portfolio reviews.
- Assist with maintaining visibility of active, emerging, and dormant partnerships.
Stakeholder Engagement & Institutional Coordination
- Serve as the East Africa liaison for partnership-related activities and stakeholder engagement.
- Support coordination of the East Africa Community of Practice (CoP) and related engagement initiatives.
- Facilitate communication and follow-up between GEO, AKU entities, AKDN agencies, and external partners.
- Support implementation of partnership-related governance and coordination mechanisms.
Partnership Development & Opportunity Identification
- Research prospective partners and collaboration opportunities.
- Support preparation of partnership briefs, stakeholder profiles, and background materials.
- Track emerging opportunities aligned with institutional priorities.
- Assist with development of engagement strategies and partnership pipelines.
Partner Communications, Visibility & Engagement
- Support communication and engagement with current and prospective partners.
- Promote GEO programmes, initiatives, and partnership opportunities.
- Assist in preparing presentations, reports, briefing materials, and engagement communications.
- Maintain records of partner engagement activities and communications.
Visits, Delegations & Engagement Activities
- Support planning, coordination, and execution of incoming and outgoing visits, delegations, and engagement activities.
- Coordinate schedules, stakeholder communications, meeting logistics, and follow-up actions.
- Capture outcomes, commitments, and feedback arising from engagements.
Requirements
- Master’s or bachelor’s degree in business administration, International Relations, Communications, Public Relations, Social Sciences, Management, Education, or a related field.
- 0–1 year of relevant professional, internship, volunteer, or project-based experience in partnerships, stakeholder engagement, communications, programme coordination, higher education, international relations, events, business development, or related areas.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating multiple activities, stakeholders, or projects simultaneously.
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications and database/tracking systems is desirable.
- Exposure to partnership management, stakeholder engagement, higher education, international collaboration, or relationship management activities will be an advantage.
- Experience supporting events, meetings, visits, delegations, or engagement activities is desirable.
- Applicants must be residing or have permission to work in the country of application
