Principal Geo-Scientist (Geophysics) - Geothermal Resource Assessment

Geothermal Development Company’s formation is a result of the enactment of the Energy Act No. 12 of 2006, after the adoption of Sessional Paper No. 4 on Energy in 2004 that unbundled the country’s energy sector into five sub-sectors: generation, transmission, distribution, regulation and policy. GDC is in the generation sub-sector.
The Company seeks to recruit top talent to complement the current team in implementing its mandate for the following positions:

Reports To: Manager – Geothermal Resource Assessment
Salary Range: KES 170,000 – KES 260,000 per month.
Job Description
Duties and responsibilities of a Chief Geologist will entail: -

1. 
   
2. Developing sectional work plans
   
3. Managing sectional budgets
   
4. Reviewing surface exploration and well reports
   
5. Facilitating the process of identifying and ranking geothermal prospects
   
6. Directing the drilling crew on drilling targets
   
7. Planning and monitoring drilling parameters during drilling
   
8. Planning and monitoring well logging/fluid sampling and analysis activities/ processes.
   

Person Specifications
For appointment to this grade, an officer must have:

1. 
   
2. A minimum of eight (8) years of relevant work experience three (3) years of which must have been in a supervisory role.
   
3. Master’s degree in: - Earth/Geological Science, Geology, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geothermal Energy Technology or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
   
4. Bachelor’s degree in: - Earth/Geological Science, Geology, Physics, Chemistry, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Geomatics Engineering, Geospatial Science/Engineering, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
   
5. Post Graduate Diploma in Geothermal Energy Technology or an equivalent from a recognized institution shall be an added advantage.
   
6. Supervisory course lasting not less than two (2) weeks.
   
7. Member of the Geological Society of Kenya (GSK) or any other relevant professional body.
   
8. Proficiency in computer applications.
   
9. Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution of Kenya.
