JOB SUMMARY
BURN is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Purchasing Agent to support procurement operations at our Nairobi office. Reporting to the Category Manager, the role will be responsible for managing purchase orders, coordinating with suppliers, and ensuring the timely and cost-effective sourcing of materials and services to support production and operational needs.The ideal candidate is highly organised, analytical, and comfortable operating in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, with a strong commitment to accuracy, accountability, and continuous improvement.Skills and ExperienceBachelor’s degree, Essential: Diploma or equivalent education.Studies or a course in Procurement or Supply Chain ManagementMinimum 1 year of experience in a similar procurement role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.Fundamental understanding of procurement best practices, vendor management, ERP systems and contract negotiation.Proficiency in Procurement systems and Microsoft Office Suite.Excellent organisational, communication, and interpersonal skills.Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. Should have a good understanding of spreadsheetsHigh level of integrity and attention to detail.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Place and manage purchase orders with relevant local material and service suppliers, ensuring timely delivery through consistent follow-up and coordination.Prepare and issue Requests for Quotations (RFQs); analyse bids, conduct bid evaluations, and present recommendations for approval to the HQ and relevant departmentsSupport in conducting market research and due diligence to identify and evaluate potential vendors.Provide regular updates to internal stakeholders regarding the status of procurement requests.Convert end-user requests into Procurement Requests and Purchase Orders; ensure timely approvals and follow-ups.Collaborate with warehouse staff to plan for inbound deliveries and ensure optimal storage arrangements.Foster strong communication and maintain professional relationships with suppliers.Work closely with engineering and warehouse teams to procure spare parts, consumables, and production materials as per technical specifications.Maintain accurate and organized procurement documentation and filing systems.Update weekly cash forecasts to inform supplier payment schedules in line with negotiated terms.Support as required in conducting vendor appraisals and analysing supplier performance for continuous improvement.
