ABOUT THE COMPANY
Umba combines advanced tools and techniques to optimize risk exposures in emerging markets that are currently underserved by traditional banking services. The Umba platform allows users to apply, receive and repay microloans through their mobile phone while using machine learning to underwrite using a risk score that is highly accurate and improves over time. umba has just rolled out a new online POS solution and is teaming up with some of the biggest e-commerce merchants to increase customers access to online goods and services.
JOB SUMMARY
Requirements10+ years in Kenyan financial services regulation, banking compliance, or government relationsDeep understanding of CBK's licensing framework and regulatory processesBased in Nairobi with availability for in-person meetings at short noticeStrong written communication skills for regular remote briefings to the CEO
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead day-to-day engagement with CBK on licensing, compliance, and strategic regulatory matters Advise on Kenya's banking regulatory framework, including license categories and upgrade pathways Attend in-person meetings at CBK and coordinate with Umba's legal advisorsDevelop and execute regulatory strategy aligned with Umba's growth objectives Provide regular briefings on regulatory progress, risks, and stakeholder dynamicsNavigate informal dynamics and relationships within CBK and the broader regulatory ecosystem Prepare regulatory filings, applications, and formal correspondence as neededSupport coordination between Umba, external partners, and CBK
