St. Philip Neri Primary and
Junior Secondary School seeks to recruit a school counselor to perform the
duties outlined below:
Duties and responsibilities:
School Counselor works with all students and families to address personal/social, developmental, and academic issues. Throughout the year, the counselor facilitates social and emotional learning lessons within each homeroom, offer support for all parents with workshops, and work closely with teachers to ensure students are receiving the needed support.
Duties:
- Individual student academic planning and goal setting
- School counseling classroom lessons based on student success standards
- Short-term counseling to students
- Referrals for long-term support
- Collaboration with families/teachers/ administrators/ community for student success
- Advocacy for students at individual education plan meetings and other student-focused meetings
- Data analysis to identify student issues, needs and challenges
- Acting as a systems change agent to improve equity and access, achievement and opportunities for all students
- Collaborate with social worker office
- Conducting home visits
- You shall be expected to report to work well in time by 7:00am up to 5:00pm. Your position, responsibilities and salary indicate that you shall be expected to work extra hours when duty calls without overtime.
- The counsellor shall report to the manager, head of academics and any other senior office as the management may assign.
- The workstation will be mainly at Joska Machakos or guided by the management from time to time
Skills
and Qualifications required:
- You have Professional Training in Counselling- Higher National Diploma or Degree in Counselling.
- You are registered with a counselor's professional body in Kenya
- You have between 3-5 years of experience in institutional counselling
- You are experienced in using assessment tools for determining and structuring individual and group counselling.
- You are passionate about student welfare and want to help them tackle life’s different challenges
- You have previously counselled children/ teens
- You are a great communicator: You are able to provide a clear and persuasive pitch to anyone and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- ​You are results driven, goal oriented, move fast, and take ownership of work.
- You have an exceptional ability to think strategically and yet you sweat the small stuff—people see you as unusually detail-oriented and conscientious
- You have the ability to exercise discretion in handling sensitive matters
- You have a flexible and adaptable approach to work
- You are proactive and have an enthusiastic approach to work
- You are excited about our organizational culture—and in particular, you are fired up to challenge yourself by embracing mutual vulnerability and a firehose of feedback.
Success criteria:
Your performance shall be measured against the excellence in the outlined responsibilities and such other duties allocated from time to time and also the institutional goals and aspiration.
