JOB SUMMARY

Overall PurposeThe Senior Accountant will have responsibilities in financial management, accounting, regulatory and financial reporting and analysis, budget and forecasts preparation, as well as development/review of internal control policies and procedures. The goal is to keep the accounting and financial processes of the company up to standard and ensure accurate financial control and reporting.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide support in developing and ensuring adequate controls, policies, procedures, & practices are in place to improve financial operations efficiency and safeguard company assets;Manage accounts payable by processing supplier invoices ensuring proper documentation and approval, processing payments within set deadlines and carrying out reconciliations with supplier statements;Regular cash flow monitoring and forecasting in order to ensure availability of funds to implement planned activities;Ensure the month-end and year-end close general ledger account reconciliations processes are done correctly and on time;Assist in preparation of accurate and timely monthly management accounts including tracking of monthly departmental budgets against actuals and preparing variance reports on the same for communication;Assist in the annual audits and in the preparation of consolidated financial statements and reports and related reconciliations as per set deadlines;Assist in the preparation and consolidation of the annual budget and periodic forecasts and regular monitoring and communication of performance against these plans;Research on technical accounting issues for compliance as needed; and ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards, statutory requirements, legal requirements, & company policies and procedures;Manage relationships with external parties (Internal Audit, External Auditors, Banks and other parties) in relation to the financial affairs of the company (taxation, statutory, finance, business requirements);Participate in the procurement processes and meetings;Provide financial information and analysis to support decision making process for new and existing projects;Conduct regular physical verification of fixed assets and reconciliation to the fixed assets register; andPerform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.Minimum Qualificationsi) Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, Economics, Finance or a related field.ii) Professional qualifications such as CPA, ACA, ACCA, ACMA and membership to a relevant professional body will be an added advantage.iii) Three (3) years relevant experience. Supervisory experience will be an added advantage.Key Competenciesi) Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and procedures and financial processes (general ledger functions, budgeting, financial closure, reporting, financial statements preparation etc.)ii) Solid and up to date knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standardsiii) Effective interpersonal skills coupled with strong communication skillsiv) Ability to resolve problems in a timely manner, gather and analyse information skilfully, develop alternative solutions and work well in problem solving situationsv) Ability to maintain professional status, high integrity and keep abreast of evolving trends in planning and budgeting through continuing professional developmentvi) Strong financial and analytical skillsvii) Well-organized with ability to prioritizeviii) Teamwork and with ability to influence team dynamicsix) Attention to detail, reliable, self- driven and able to carry out tasks autonomously and collaborativelyx) Proficiency in computer applications
