About us
At Tana, we believe that your skills and your character define you – not where in the world you were born. We empower brilliant young people to start meaningful careers by training them for tech and data roles, and embedding them into full-time, remote positions with companies across North America and Europe. We’re a rapidly growing start-up headquartered in Nairobi, Kenya, with a vision to change the world of work.
Position overview
As a Senior Technical Trainer at Tana, you’ll play a central role in shaping how we develop technical talent across our partner clients. You will design and deliver high-impact technical learning programs that equip early-career professionals with job-ready skills, and push the boundaries of how technical training is done. While doing so, you’ll gain hands-on experience with a range of tools, programming languages and systems. This role is ideal for someone who thrives at the intersection of technology, learning, and innovation, and who has the motivation to grow into a team leadership position.
A core part of this role will be helping to define and implement Tana’s AI-native training strategy — exploring how cutting-edge AI tools and approaches can transform the way that tech professionals learn and work. You’ll bring creativity, imagination, and a track record of innovation to the table, continuously experimenting with new ideas.
Responsibilities
- Curriculum development: Create and continuously improve technical curricula across domains such as data, QA, and software engineering. As a senior team member, you’ll also help set direction for how our training programs evolve.
- AI-native training strategy: Lead the development and implementation of Tana’s AI-native approach to technical training. This includes experimenting with AI tools, and designing innovative learning experiences powered by AI.
- Training delivery & facilitation: Deliver engaging, hands-on technical sessions (live and self-paced), facilitating workshops, guiding discussions, answering questions, and supporting learners throughout their journey.
- Innovation in learning experiences: You’ll actively pilot new formats, tools, and approaches — from AI-assisted learning to novel instructional techniques — helping Tana set a new standard for technical training.
- Training operations: Own and optimize our training resources, templates, and processes. You’ll make improvements based on learner feedback, evolving best practices, and changes in tools or client expectations.
- Technical upskilling programs: Develop tailored upskilling plans based on role requirements, learner skill gaps, and partner needs. This includes hosting Office Hours, tracking progress, and ensuring learners are supported.
- Cross-functional collaboration & leadership: Work closely with Talent Success, Recruitment, and other Tana HQ teams.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional experience in a technical role or technical training environment.
- Strong technical qualifications (STEM degree, advanced certification, or equivalent experience).
- Strong hands-on programming foundation (JavaScript, Python, Java, or similar), with the ability to teach and apply concepts across software engineering, QA, and/or data engineering.
- Experience working with cutting-edge AI technologies in a technical or training context (e.g., AI developer tools, LLM workflows, AI-assisted engineering, AI-driven learning methods).
- Demonstrated ability to innovate in training — a track record of bringing new ideas, piloting experiments, and improving learning impact beyond traditional approaches.
- Experience maintaining and improving shared documentation, templates, and workflows (e.g. in Notion, Jira, Confluence).
- Strong communication and facilitation skills.
- Highly organized and process-oriented, with the ability to scale systems and training operations effectively.
- You thrive in a fast-moving, dynamic and highly collaborative environment, with high ownership and initiative.
- Bonus points: Previous experience in a technical team lead or people management role.
This is a hybrid position based in Nairobi, Kenya, with a minimum of 3 days in the office (Tuesday-Thursday).
