Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and highly competent Structural/Civil Engineer / Project Manager to lead, manage, and oversee construction projects from planning and design through execution and completion.
The successful candidate must have a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience and demonstrable hands-on experience in running and managing large-scale construction projects. The candidate should have strong expertise in building construction, structural works, civil works, and project management.
Experience in piling works and foundation construction will be an added advantage.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead, plan, coordinate, and manage large-scale civil and structural construction projects from commencement to completion.
• Take overall responsibility for the day-to-day running and successful delivery of major construction projects.
• Supervise and coordinate site teams, contractors, subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and other project stakeholders.
• Manage projects to ensure completion within approved time, cost, quality, and safety requirements.
• Review and interpret structural, architectural, civil, and engineering drawings.
• Supervise building and structural works, including foundations, reinforced concrete, steel structures, masonry, and associated works.
• Monitor site activities and ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, standards, and construction methods.
• Conduct regular site inspections and resolve technical and construction-related challenges.
• Review contractors' work progress, programmes, materials, workmanship, and resource requirements.
• Prepare and review technical reports, progress reports, method statements, inspection requests, and other project documentation.
• Monitor project budgets, quantities, variations, procurement, and construction costs.
• Ensure proper quality control and quality assurance throughout the project.
• Ensure compliance with relevant Kenyan building regulations, engineering standards, occupational health and safety requirements, and environmental requirements.
• Coordinate testing, inspections, commissioning, and handover of completed works.
• Provide strong technical leadership and direction to engineering, construction, and site teams.
• Identify construction risks and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
• Attend project meetings and provide technical and managerial leadership.
• Liaise effectively with clients, consultants, authorities, contractors, and other stakeholders.
Required Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline from a recognized institution.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in civil/structural engineering and construction project management.
• Must be registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK).
• Proven hands-on experience in running and managing large-scale construction projects from inception to completion.
• Demonstrable experience taking responsibility for the overall execution, coordination, and delivery of major building and structural projects.
• Strong practical experience in building construction and structural works.
• Strong knowledge of reinforced concrete, structural steel, foundations, masonry, and general building works.
• Good understanding of construction methods, materials, specifications, drawings, quality control, and site management.
• Strong project planning, coordination, reporting, budgeting, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven ability to lead large multidisciplinary construction teams and coordinate multiple contractors and subcontractors.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in relevant engineering and project management software will be an advantage.
Added Advantage
• Hands-on experience in piling works, including bored piles, driven piles, piling supervision, pile testing, and foundation-related works.
• Experience managing large-scale commercial, residential, industrial, institutional, or mixed-use developments.
• Experience working with consultants, main contractors, subcontractors, and specialist contractors.
• Membership in relevant professional engineering institutions.
• Experience in cost control, contract administration, procurement, and construction claims.
