Job Function
The Tax Analyst is responsible for supporting the organization in effectively managing its tax obligations and ensuring compliance with applicable tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements. The role supports accurate and timely preparation and submission of tax returns, tax reconciliations, statutory payments, and tax-related financial reporting.
Key performance areas:
- Manage and ensure end-to-end tax compliance and reporting by preparing and facilitating timely filing of tax returns and statutory declarations, ensuring accurate and timely payment of tax liabilities, and maintaining complete supporting documentation in accordance with applicable tax legislation and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee compliance with all applicable tax obligations, including filing of Corporate Income Tax, VAT, PAYE, withholding taxes, and other statutory taxes, by preparing accurate tax computations, schedules, reconciliations, and periodic reports and resolving tax-related general ledger variances.
- Provide tax analysis and advisory support to the business by assessing the tax implications of transactions, contracts, projects, investments, products, and operational changes, conducting relevant tax research, and providing practical recommendations to management and key stakeholders.
- Manage tax risks and strengthen internal tax controls by identifying potential tax exposures, conducting tax health checks and compliance reviews, monitoring adherence to tax policies and procedures, recommending corrective actions, and driving continuous improvement of tax processes, controls, and reporting.
- Support tax audits, assessments, investigations, and regulatory engagements by preparing accurate documentation, schedules, reconciliations, and responses, reviewing tax assessments for potential discrepancies, coordinating engagements with tax authorities and advisers, and ensuring timely implementation of agreed audit actions.
- Monitor tax legislative and regulatory developments by assessing the impact of changes in tax laws, regulations, guidelines, and administrative practices, advising management and affected departments, and supporting the timely implementation of changes required to maintain compliance.
- Drive effective stakeholder collaboration on tax matters by partnering with Finance, Payroll, Procurement, Legal, Human Resources, auditors, tax consultants, and other stakeholders to resolve tax-related matters, provide required information and guidance, and support tax-related projects and business initiatives.
- Transfer pricing management.
Qualifications required:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Commerce, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Professional certification (CPAK, ACCA).
- Additional professional training or certification in taxation will be an added advantage
Skills and experience required:
- Experience handling or supporting tax audits and interactions with tax authorities will be an added advantage
- Strong experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Sage, or similar platforms.
- Sound understanding of tax principles and applicable tax legislation.
- Strong knowledge of accounting and financial reporting principles.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret tax legislation and translate requirements into practical business actions.
- Strong reconciliation and problem-solving capabilities.
- Good knowledge of Excel tools
