About Our Client:
Our client is a civil engineering and construction contractor focused on government infrastructure and high-rise building projects in Kenya. The company is expanding its project portfolio and seeks to strengthen its executive leadership through the appointment of an experienced Technical Director.
Role Purpose:
The Technical Director will provide executive leadership over the company's technical and project delivery functions, overseeing multiple concurrent projects, ensuring technical excellence, financial discipline, compliance with procurement frameworks, and effective coordination of engineering teams.
The successful candidate will manage Project Managers and senior engineering personnel while contributing to strategic leadership as a member of the company's Executive Committee (EXCO), reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead technical delivery of multiple civil engineering and high-rise building projects
• Provide oversight of project planning, scheduling, and execution across the organization
• Manage and mentor Project Managers and technical teams
• Ensure proper contract administration under JBC contracts and related construction frameworks
• Oversee project financial performance including cashflow management and cost controls
• Implement value engineering initiatives to optimize project economics
• Ensure procurement processes align with Kenyan public procurement systems and regulatory frameworks
• Strengthen operational systems related to project governance, procurement cycles, and execution controls
Candidate Profile:
• Minimum 15 years of experience in civil engineering or construction project delivery
• Strong background managing multiple large construction projects simultaneously
• Demonstrated experience leading Project Managers and multidisciplinary engineering teams
• Solid working knowledge of JBC contracts and public procurement processes in Kenya
• Strong commercial awareness, particularly in construction cashflows, procurement cycles, and cost management
• Experience working within government contracting environments is strongly preferred
