Job Summary: Our client is seeking to hire a Technical Operations Lead at a fast-growing industrial equipment supplier and engineering firm to lead, manage, and oversee the workshop department, including but not limited to Field Service Technicians, Workshop Admins, Mechanics, Welders/Fabricators, Plumbers, and Pump Technicians.
Role Purpose: The primary purpose of this role is to lead and coordinate the daily operations of the technical and workshop admin teams, ensuring the efficient delivery of assembly, installation, maintenance, repair, fabrication, and field service activities.
The Technical Operations Lead will ensure that technical jobs are properly planned, resources are effectively allocated, quality standards are maintained, safety requirements are followed, and customer expectations are consistently met.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Technical Leadership and Team Management

• 
  
• Review site plans, site reports, work orders, and technical requisitions to ensure proper preparation and execution of jobs.
  
• Supervise Field Service Technicians, Mechanics, Pump Technicians, Plumbers, Welders/Fabricators, and Workshop Admin Staff.
  
• Work closely with the Quality Assurance and Training Lead to identify skills gaps and implement appropriate training, coaching, and mentoring programs, and to improve processes for efficiency in a cost-friendly way.
  
• Promote a culture of accountability, teamwork, continuous improvement, and professional development
  

Workshop and Field Operations

• 
  
• Plan, coordinate, and monitor workshop activities to ensure jobs are completed within agreed timelines and specifications.
  
• Coordinate installation, commissioning, servicing, repair, and preventive maintenance activities.
  
• Develop and monitor preventive maintenance schedules for equipment and technical systems.
  
• Ensure that tools, equipment, materials, and spare parts required for technical jobs are available and properly allocated.
  
• Review job progress and resolve technical or operational issues that may affect delivery schedules.
  
• Ensure completed work meets approved technical specifications, customer requirements, and company quality standards.
  
• Monitor workshop capacity and optimize the utilization of manpower, equipment, tools, and other resources.
  
• Coordinate multiple field service and project teams where required.
  

Quality Assurance and continuous improvement

• 
  
• Ensure that all assemblies, repairs, installations, and technical jobs are completed in accordance with approved specifications and checklists.
  
• Identify recurring technical problems and implement corrective and preventive actions.
  
• Lead or support root-cause analysis of equipment failures, rework, warranty claims and customer complaints.
  
• Drive continuous improvement in workshop processes, productivity, quality, and service delivery.
  
• Ensure accurate technical documentation, service reports and maintenance records are maintained.
  

Cross functional collaboration

• 
  
• Work closely with the Technical Director, Sales, Procurement, Finance, warehouse, logistics, and Administration teams.
  
• Provide technical input to Sales teams when assessing customer requirements and developing technical solutions.
  

Health, Safety and Environment

• 
  
• Ensure that all workshop and field service activities are carried out in a safe and controlled manner.
  
• Ensure all employees properly use the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  
• Enforce compliance with company HSE policies, procedures, and safe working practices.
  
• Ensure that workshop equipment, tools, machinery, and work areas are maintained in a safe operating condition.
  
• Work closely with the HSE team to ensure required safety training is conducted at least quarterly.
  
• Promote a strong safety culture and immediately address unsafe practices or conditions.
  
• Report, investigate, and support corrective action following incidents, near misses, and accidents.
  

Performance Management

• 
  
• Ensure all workshop team members clearly understand their roles, responsibilities, targets, and performance expectations.
  
• Monitor individual performance against agreed targets and work schedules.
  
• Conduct or support quarterly performance appraisals in accordance with company policy.
  
• Identify performance gaps and implement appropriate corrective actions, coaching, and development plans.
  
• Recognize and encourage high-performing employees and promote a culture of accountability.
  
• Expense order approvals.
  

Key Performance Indicators

• 
  
• Timely completion of jobs and tasks in accordance with approved work schedules.
  
• Quality of completed work, ensuring assemblies, installations, repairs, and projects meet customer requirements and approved technical checklists.
  
• Customer satisfaction and timely resolution of technical complaints.
  
• Reduction in repeat equipment failures, rework, warranty claims, and customer complaints.
  
• Compliance with HSE requirements, with the objective of achieving zero preventable incidents and accidents.
  

Qualifications and Experience

• 
  
• A bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, Production Engineering, or related engineering discipline.
  
• Minimum of 3 years’ relevant engineering experience, including supervisory or managerial responsibility. Ideally within the industrial equipment, water machinery and Solar water pumping.
  
• Demonstrated experience in industrial equipment, water pumping systems, mechanical systems, or solar water pumping solutions is highly desirable.
  
• Proven experience leading and coordinating multiple field service, workshop, or project teams.
  

Technical Knowledge and Competencies
The successful candidate should demonstrate strong practical and technical knowledge of:

• Positive Displacement (PD), centrifugal, industrial, and submersible pumps.
  
• Electric motors and geared motors.
  
• Control panels and Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs).
  
• Solar water pumping systems.
  
• Pump installation, commissioning, servicing, and troubleshooting.
  
• Mechanical assemblies and couplings.
  
• Welding and fabrication.
  
• Preventive and corrective maintenance.
  
• Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and technical troubleshooting.
  
• Equipment fault diagnosis and failure analysis.
  
• Workshop planning and resource management.
  
• Quality control and technical inspection.
  

ERP and Digital Systems

• 
  
• Experience with Odoo ERP will be an added advantage.
  
• Proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
