<p><strong>UGANDA COUNTRY COORDINATOR: GIRLS’ EDUCATION CHALLENGE </strong></p>
<p>Â </p>
<p>The Girls’ Education Challenge (GEC) is a £300 million DFID programme with the aim of enabling up to a million marginalized girls to re-enroll or remain in school and increase their learning. The programme operates in 18 countries, supporting 37 initiatives across Africa and Asia with a wide range of non-state organisations.</p>

<p><strong>Brief Description:</strong></p>
<ul>
<li>The Country Coordinator will be responsible for the co-ordination, monitoring and oversight of GEC projects in-country.</li>
<li>He/she will be the main interlocutor for the projects, the Fund Manager in London and the DFID adviser in country, with regard to overall progress, monitoring visits’ findings and day-to-day issues arising.</li>
<li>The role will include a requirement to represent the GEC at meetings, in particular as a source of first-hand information about projects.</li>

<p><strong>Required & Preferred Skills: </strong></p>
<ul>
<li>Proven knowledge and practical experience of the education context in Uganda, gained through at least five years project management or technical advisory roles in education and at least two years’ experience in the country;</li>
<li>Substantial experience implementing or monitoring education projects, ideally those which have supported/ targeted girls;</li>
<li>Experience assessing progress against educational target outcomes, including school-based observation;</li>
<li>Familiarity with approaches to literacy and numeracy teaching;</li>
<li>Familiarity with tools to measure learning;</li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to establish effective working relations with different stakeholders;</li>
<li>Ability to disseminate lessons learned effectively;</li>
<li>Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred;</li>
<li>DFID project experience preferred, including working with log frames;</li>
<li>Excellent English writing and communications skills; ability to work unsupervised and to manage own logistical arrangements (e.g. travel, hotel, visa);</li>
<li>Proven ability to identify risks and issues and to escalate as appropriate;</li>
<li>Ability to work in the relevant languages for the country as well as in English;</li>
<li>Good organisational skills.</li>
