SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya is a member of the SOS Children's Villages International (CVI) Federation. SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya is a child-focused Non-Governmental Organization established in 1973 to provide care and support to children who have lost or are at risk of losing the care of their biological family.
The organization’s vision is “Every child belongs to a family and grows with love, respect, and security and its programs are driven by the mission of “building families for children in need, helping them shape their own futures and sharing in the development of their communities”. In this regard, the organization works to reduce poverty; increase access to quality education and decent work; reduce inequalities, and build strong institutions as laid out in SDGs 1, 4,8,10, and 16.
This is done through programs that are geared towards addressing the political, economic, health, and social root causes that lead to high levels of child vulnerability and put families at risk of breaking down. The programs focus on Alternative Care, Family Strengthening, Youth Empowerment, Education, Health Care and Advocacy.
SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya implements programs in five (5) of Kenya’s 47 Counties namely Nairobi, Mombasa, Uasin Gishu, Kisumu, and Meru. SOS Children’s Villages. We seek to recruit suitably qualified persons to fill the following positions;


  1. JS Teacher - 1 position, Mombasa
  2. Lower Primary/ Upper Primary - 1 Position Mombasa
  3. Monitoring and Evaluation Assistant – 1 Position, Nairobi
  4. Reliver drivers (2) Meru Location


 JS TEACHER -  1 POSITION, MOMBASA
Position Summary: Reporting to the Head of Institution School Mombasa. He/she will assist in teaching and guiding learners in the upper primary and Junior Secondary section of the institution.
He/She is expected to contribute greatly to the intellectual, spiritual, moral and physical development of the young learners assigned to his/her class and the general school learners when called upon. As a facilitator you are expected to execute your duty by applying the best learning activities and experiences as a professional and experienced teacher.
He/She is expected to empower the learners with the necessary knowledge, skills, attitudes and values in line with the expectations of the Competency Based Education (CBE). The main clients are the upper primary learners and Junior Secondary students. In addition to classroom teaching, he/she is to engage learners in extra curricular activities for holistic education and development of talents.
 
Key Performance Areas and Responsibilities
Lead all activities within the assigned grade which include but not limited to; -
1.    Prepare professional documents.
2.    Prepare learning activities in line with the strand/sub-strand.
3.    Adapt teaching methods, activities and materials to cater to diverse learning styles and abilities.
4.    Carry out teaching and learning activities as guided by the Curriculum Design and approved KICD Learners Book and the Teachers Guide.
5.    Facilitate and supervise all learning activities taking place in the classroom.
6.    Prepare, administer and grade Assessment tests and assignments to assess students’ progress.
7.    Provide individualized learning activities to each learner by promoting interactive learning.
8.    Adapt teaching instructions and learning activities to meet varying learners’ needs and interests.

Other Key Responsibilities
·       Budget: working with the principal and the HOD, develop the annual operation budget for the department/learning area needs.
·       Perform other tasks assigned by the immediate supervisor.
 
Formal qualifications & Experience for JS teacher
i.      Minimum Diploma in Education, a Bachelor of Education (BED)with a P1 background will be an added advantage.
ii.      Minimum 3 years’ experience.
iii.      Experience in teaching at least three of the following learning areas
·       Pre-technical
·       Agri/Nutrition
·       Mathematics
·       Integrated Science
 Requirements for the position
1.       Registered with the Teachers Service Commission. Proof of a TSC Certificate is necessary.
2.       Experience and understanding of the Competency Based Education (CBE).
3.       Certificate of Good Conduct.

 LOWER PRIMARY/ UPPER PRIMARY - 1 POSITION MOMBASA

MONITORING AND EVALUATION ASSISTANT – NAIROBI 
Position summary: The primary role of the position is to support SOS Children’s Villages in Kenya location teams to fully adhere to organization’s Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning Framework and approaches. He/she will be responsible for ensuring seamless and efficient liaison with all programme staff and the implementing partners in the Location.
The Monitoring & Evaluation Assistant will work with the Monitoring & Evaluation Co-ordinator at the National Office to report against set targets as well as track performance at the various levels (output, outcome & impact), support the location adapt a Results Based Management [RBM] management approach to project planning, implementation reporting and use of results accruing from the project. He/She will support the management and analysis of program data in location and will ensure regular consultative improvement of all M&E tools, processes and policies in line with the changing needs and internationally acceptable trends.
Key performance areas and main responsibilities
To support in tracking program quality in line with SOS Children’s Villages policies, procedures and guidelines.
1.   Plan for results.
·       Participate in location planning process by linking plans to location results frameworks and concept note.
·       Provide support to location teams with input to develop Monitoring and Evaluation elements of the concept notes and results frameworks
·       Contextualize and document location Results Based Management System.
2.      Monitor for results
·       On a regular basis, monitor program implementation progress against the location action plan (Activity Schedule).
·       Provide leadership and support for outcome report development in compliance with organizational and institutional partners' reporting requirements.
·       On a monthly basis, review data from the program database, analyze and make performance presentations based on the Federation's key standard performance indicators.
·       Support Program Database (PDB2) users troubleshoot PDB2 challenges as reported as well as provide capacity building of the users on the system.
·       Conduct quarterly data quality audits and reporting as well as build the capacity of location teams on data management and quality.
·       Operationalise the location Monitoring plan as envisioned in the results framework through regular updating and review.
·       Oversee monitoring and evaluation data collection using appropriate federation and MA tools and systems.
·       Support the Program Director in developing the SOS Children’s Villages Care Promise self-assessment report.
3.      Evaluate for results
·       Identify opportunities for operations research during monitoring and evaluation of various projects at the location.
·       In liaison with the M&E Coordinator and the M&E Officer National Office conducts needs assessments for the location
·       Coordinate baseline, midterm, and end-term evaluations for all IPD projects in the location in line with the national evaluation framework.
4.      Use of results
·       Establish and maintain the location’s Lesson learned log
·       Conduct quarterly program reviews to assess progress against key RBM documents such as activity schedules, results framework, M&E plan, and progress reports.
·       Keep abreast of the latest developments in M&E and network with other organizations for best practice sharing
·       Facilitate utilization of data for decision-making through regular synthesis and analysis of thematic reports based on monitoring data
·       Provide support to SOS CV Kenya’s advocacy agenda in all programs, initiatives, and activities
Performs other tasks as assigned by the immediate supervisor
 
Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience.
1.   A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Project Planning & Management / Development Studies or related disciplines.
2.      Prior experience with performance monitoring and evaluation for development programs, including developing performance indicators, data collection, and analysis.
3.   At least 3 years of progressive experience in the development and implementation of Planning, Monitoring & Evaluation policies & processes in a multi-sector program environment.
4.      Previous experience in child-focused organizations is an added advantage.
5.      Skills and experience with numerical methods, database management, and MS Excel.
6.      Strong analytical skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
7.      Excellent interpersonal skills and a team player
8.      Strong report writing skills.
 
1.     RELIVER DRIVERS (2) MERU LOCATION
Job Summary: Reporting to the Program Administrator, the reliever driver is responsible for meeting transportation needs when required for the Children’s Village and the school. In doing so, he/she carries an important responsibility for being entrusted with the lives of children, personnel and visitors. In all her/his work, she/he should be a good role model.
 
Key performance areas and main responsibilities: 
1.   Fulfils the Transport Needs of the location
·       Carries out the driving requirements of the project as directed by the Program Administrator, who is responsible for coordinating vehicle use. This includes conveying the project staff to the various places they may need to visit in the course of their work, efficiently and safely. S/he also drives the organisation’s vehicles to all assigned places, delivering and picking up mail & other items as directed.
·       Conduct trips using the shortest possible route. Avoids unnecessary deviations and multiple trips to minimize mileage and time wastage.
·       Records all trips in the vehicle mileage logbook
·       Ensures vehicles have sufficient fuel at all times and records mileage for each trip made.
Note: Use of SOS Children's Villages in Kenya vehicles for personal trips is strictly prohibited.
2.   Ensures the Safety of the Children and Staff
·       Drives safely at all times, to protect the safety of staff, visitors & children.
·       Complies to all traffic regulations and stops only where it is safe to do so
·       Obeys all traffic laws to ensure children
·       Ensures the safety of all children when entering and leaving the bus and safe arrival to their destination
·       Follows the planned route and schedule for departure times and stops.
·       Follows the correct procedure in the event of an accident.  Notifies the Project Manager and appropriate authorities immediately, and renders assistance where necessary.
3.   Maintains the Safety and Security of vehicles
·       Performs complete visual safety checks of the vehicles before driving on a daily basis, completing daily pre and post-trip checklists. Regularly checks lights, indicators, brakes, tyre pressure, oil, battery, and radiator.
·       Enforcing conduct and safety rules on the bus
·       Reports any defects to the Program Administrator and ensures that all necessary servicing is performed by reputable agencies.
·       Ensures vehicles are kept in good working order.  Possesses manual dexterity for using tools for general maintenance.
·       Does simple general maintenance as required on the vehicle
·       Report any needed repairs, and delivers the vehicle to the repair site
·       Maintains the cleanliness of vehicles by regularly washing the interior and exterior.
·       Reconciles fuel bills before sending to Accounts Department for payment processing
·       Keeps records of maintenance work done on the vehicle.
4.   General


  • Provides a good role model for the SOS Children’s Villages.
  • Carries out all duties in an exemplary manner.


Required Qualifications/Abilities
1.       Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education.
2.       At least 5 years working experience working with projects in Non - Governmental Organizations
3.       Thorough knowledge of traffic laws and traffic patterns is desired.
4.      Must have a valid Commercial Driver’s License (PSV)
5.       Clean driving record with no at-fault accidents or traffic citations within the last five years
6.       A Defensive Driving Certificate from the Automobile Association of Kenya (AA) or its equivalent qualifications.
7.       A Valid certificate of Good Conduct
8.       A First Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than one week from St Johns Ambulance or any other recognized institution.
9.      Occupational Trade Test III Certificate
