Navigating Return to Office Resistance

The return to office resistance has been a prevalent issue for many companies globally, and Kenya is no exception. As the world navigates the “new normal” post-pandemic, many employees have grown accustomed to the flexibility and convenience of remote work. However, with businesses reopening their offices, some employees have been resistant to the idea of returning to a traditional office setting.

In Kenya, the year 2022 was marked by a significant increase in return-to-office resistance among employees. Many cited concerns over safety, reduced productivity, and lack of flexibility as reasons for their reluctance.

To address these concerns, BrighterMonday, hosted an office forum bringing together HR professionals from different organizations to devise strategies that will help both the organization and the employee cope better and compiled a report with possible solutions that HR practitioners can implement.

The event, which was held in our West End Towers offices, brought together a diverse group of leaders from various industries to share their insights and experiences on navigating the return to office.

One of the key takeaways from the event was the importance of clear communication and transparency. Many attendees highlighted the need for companies to provide clear guidelines and expectations for returning to the office, as well as to actively engage employees in the decision-making process.

Another important aspect that was discussed was the need for flexibility. Many employees have grown accustomed to the flexibility of remote work, and companies will need to find ways to maintain this flexibility while also ensuring that productivity is not compromised.

Poll: Do you prefer to work from home, in-office or hybrid?

In conclusion, the return to office resistance is a complex issue that requires a multi-faceted approach. Companies need to communicate clearly and transparently with employees, involve them in the decision-making process, and provide flexibility while ensuring that productivity is not compromised.
