ACCOUNTANT
Job summary
The Accountant is responsible for overseeing the company’s day-to-day accounting, financial reporting, inventory accounting, statutory compliance, payments, and financial controls.

Key Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate accounting records, general ledger, and subsidiary accounts.
- Prepare monthly financial statements, management reports, budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis.
- Perform daily bank, customer, supplier, and general ledger reconciliations.
- Manage accounts receivable and payable, including invoicing, collections, supplier payments, and account statements.
- Process payroll, vendor, casual, and statutory payments.
- Ensure compliance with VAT, PAYE, NSSF, SHIF and other applicable statutory obligations.
- Prepare and submit statutory returns and assist with tax matters and audits.
- Manage inventory accounting, including stock valuations, cost of sales, margin analysis, physical stock counts, and stock variance investigations.
- Reconcile inventory records with the general ledger and monitor stock gains and losses.
- Maintain the fixed asset register and asset movement schedules.
- Coordinate internal and external audits and provide required financial documentation.
- Supervise, train, and support accounting staff, bookkeepers, and clerks.
- Use accounting/ERP systems such as QuickBooks, Sage, Zoho, and Microsoft Excel.
- Identify financial discrepancies, strengthen internal controls, improve processes, and support cost-saving initiatives.
- Work closely with sales, procurement, warehouse, and management teams to improve financial and operational efficiency.
- Maintain proper financial documentation, filing, and confidentiality.
- Perform other duties assigned by management.
Key Reports
Daily: Bank reconciliation and unreconciled items.
Weekly: Sales and gross margin analysis by location; receivables reporting.
Monthly: Income statement, balance sheet, trial balance, bank reconciliations, inventory valuation, stock variance, cost of sales and margin analysis, and management reports.
Annually: Budgets, forecasts, year-end accounts, tax schedules, audit documentation, and fixed asset verification.
Core Requirements
- Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or related field.
- CPA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification preferred.
- Experience in accounting, preferably in FMCG, beverage distribution, retail, or trading.
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting, inventory control, taxation, payroll, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
- Strong analytical, organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- High level of accuracy, integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail.
