Job summary

Detail-oriented Accountant to manage the financial operations of an established construction firm. Based at our Nairobi HQ, you will be responsible for comprehensive financial reporting, project cost accounting, and full-time statutory compliance. You will manage payroll for both office and site-based staff, ensure timely tax filings.

Job descriptions & requirements

Key Responsibilities


* Project Cost Accounting:

Track and allocate all expenditures (materials, labor, fuel, and equipment) to specific contracts.


* Statutory Compliance & Tax Filing:

Prepare and remit all monthly returns via tax, including VAT, PAYE, NSSF, SHIF (formerly NHIF), and the 1.5% Affordable Housing Levy (AHL).


* Payroll Management:

Process monthly payroll for permanent and casual staff, ensuring all site-based allowances and statutory deductions are accurate.


* Cash Flow Management:

Monitor company liquidity, manage accounts payable (suppliers) and accounts receivable (client IPC payments), and reconcile bank statements.


* Budget Monitoring:

Prepare annual corporate budgets and track monthly deviations to ensure overheads stay within limits.


* Audit & Documentation:

Maintain all financial records, receipts, and invoices in a "ready-to-audit" state and coordinate with external auditors for annual filings.


Candidate Requirements & Qualifications


* Education:

Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (Accounting/Finance option) or a related field.


Professional Certification:

Must be a CPA-K (Certified Public Accountant) and a member of ICPAK in good standing.


* Experience:

4–6 years of experience, ideally within the Construction or Engineering sector. You must understand how to account for "Work-in-Progress" and retainage.


* Technical Skills:

Advanced proficiency in QuickBooks, Sage, or a similar ERP system, and expert-level Microsoft Excel.


* Integrity:

Undisputable professional ethics and a high level of confidentiality regarding company financial status.
