Vacant Position: Assistant Study Coordinator

The University of Nairobi in collaboration with the University of Washington is seeking to fill the following: LEIP study is looking to hire 1 Assistant Study Coordinator to be based in Nairobi Starting June 2026.
Objective of this Position: The Lead Exposure Intervention Program (LEIP) Study is seeking a full-time Study Coordinator.
The goals of the project are to 1) implement child blood lead screening in primary health facilities 2) adapt a messaging protocol for parents to reduce their child’s lead exposure 3) conduct a randomized trial to evaluate different messaging strategies.
The program involves adaptation, piloting and evaluation of risk reduction messaging for parents of children identified to have high lead metal exposure.
Key Responsibilities and Tasks
- Oversee daily study activities including procedures required for recruitment, screening, enrollment, informed consent, study follow-up visits,
- Develop standardized operating procedures (SOPs), and ensure adherence to study protocol and study standardized operating procedures (SOPs).
- Research project and clinical duties – clinical interviews of women and children, and obtaining blood finger-prick and venous blood specimens.
- Ensure proper administration of data collection and standardized questionnaires.
- Develop brief data reports to summarize study progress and key participant data, and maintain tracking sheets related to study visits, specimen collection and retention.
- Support the Study Team in maintaining participant confidentiality, proper filing of records and documentation, ensuring that specimens are collected, appropriately stored and labeled and sent to the Study Laboratory with correct paperwork.
- Support the Study Team in ensuring binders, data collection tablets or forms are in good order, and are prepared for use and data collection tools and other study documents are filled appropriately and completely.
- Support the Study Team in ensuring accurate entry into Redcap.
- Support team meetings on zoom and in person, including taking notes, disseminating minutes and developing agenda.
- Communicate with study leadership and team members daily via email in order to provide routine updates on progress and activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal Investigator or Study Pediatrician in line with project requirements.
Skills
- Experience and practical skills
- Experience in clinical practice of at least five years.
- Experience working in a clinical research project of at least three years
- Experience in coordination of research studies will be an added advantage
- Computer skills including competency in Microsoft Excel, MS Word, and Powerpoint, are a requirement.
- Experience in use of cloud-based tools such as Microsoft Teams, Google Drive and Dropbox are desirable
- Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to multi-task.
- Strong written communications skills.
- Attention to detail.
Desired Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Nursing: Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nurse (KRCHN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) Degree
- OR Diploma in Clinical Medicine
- OR Bachelor of Science in Clinical Medicine and Surgery
