JOB LOCATION: NAIROBI

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide real-time interpretation between Chinese (Mandarin) and English during internal and external meetings, workshops, negotiations, site visits, and conference calls.
• Translate a wide range of written documents including emails, reports, contracts, manuals, presentations, proposals, and official correspondence with high accuracy.
• Review and proofread translated materials to ensure clarity, consistency, grammar accuracy, and correct terminology.
• Facilitate smooth communication between Chinese-speaking and English-speaking employees, management, clients, and partners.
• Assist project teams by offering language and cultural support to minimize misunderstandings and improve collaboration.
• Maintain confidentiality and integrity of sensitive business, legal, and personal information.
• Organize translation assignments, prioritize tasks, and meet agreed deadlines with minimal supervision.
• Maintain a glossary of commonly used terms, technical vocabulary, and standardized translations for consistency.
• Support management in drafting and responding to bilingual communications as required.
• Participate in meetings as a language resource and provide post-meeting summaries when requested.
• Coordinate with internal departments to clarify context and technical terms prior to translation.
• Ensure all translations comply with company standards and professional ethics.
• Provide on-site or remote interpretation support when needed, including during urgent or time-sensitive discussions.
• Assist in onboarding or training sessions by providing interpretation and translated materials.

KEY REQUIREMENT SKILLS AND QUALIFICATION

• Diploma or Degree in Languages, Communication, Translation, Linguistics, or a related field
• Proven experience in Chinese (Mandarin) translation and/or interpretation
• High proficiency in spoken and written Chinese and English
• Strong attention to detail and excellent proofreading skills
• Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle multiple tasks
• Professional demeanor with strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Prior experience translating business, technical, or legal documents is an added advantage
