Clinical Officers 10 Positions:
Ref: COH/01/16 – 3 to work in Admitting Hospitals
COC/02/16 – 7 to work in Clinics
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Medical Officers in Admitting Hospitals, the successful candidate will contribute to the clinical Excellence strategy of PFCHs admitting hospitals and aligned clinics; the Senior most staff within the clinics, this position would design and implement a robust Outpatient and or Inpatient services, within PFCHs procedures and protocols, based on established on the Kenya Clinical Guidelines and procedures. Add to our Hospitals and clinics HRH capacity to deliver quality healthcare. He/she would have Overall responsibility for Clinical and Administrative Leadership of the Clinics to ensure that staff reports to work; Medical Supplies and Reagents are provided for and all PFCH’s Customers are satisfied.
Key duties and responsibilities:
• Drive continuous improvement by proactively identifying & highlighting issues and risks that may impact the Healthcare services provided by PFCHs.
• Provide Administrative backstopping for the clinics.
• Create and maintain inventory and stock, which may include hardware, software and various items in the clinics.
• Clinical assessment and prescription of treatment for all patients
• Refer chronic cases to the various special clinics; hospital.
• Properly cover weekends, arrange a rotation schedule with fellow clinical officers
• Conducts ward rounds in absence of the Medical Officer
• Collaborate with nurses and nurse assistants and team supervisor in indicating the needs in medical equipment and drugs.
• Properly documented treatment on patients files
• Maintain an accurate and updated records keeping system in the health unit
• Carry out minor surgical procedures
• Attend to emergencies in ward in the absence of Medical Officer
• Attend and participate in the daily morning hospital handover meetings
• Participate in weekly continues medical education(CME) at the hospital
• Conduct on-job training of staff through both practical and theory sessions
• Participate in mortality audits occurring in various wards and sharing the reports on a monthly basis with the CSM
• Participate in camp health surveys e.g. Nutrition, Immunization, etc.
Key Result Areas
• Conduct daily ward round/Daily outpatient clinic
• Ensure quality of care in management of patients
• Ensure that universal precautions and infection prevention guidelines are adhered to.
Qualification and Experience
• Diploma in Clinical Medicine and Surgery
• Registered with clinical officers council
• Minimum 1 year working experience working in health set up
• Good clinical skills – history taking, physical examination, ordering appropriate laboratory investigations and make appropriate diagnosis.
• Facility with Internet and word processing software.
• Ability to work in a team and think strategically and critically about the role of information in Health Systems Strengthening objectives.
• Strong interpersonal and stakeholder relations skills, particularly with private sector and government partners.
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation and editing skills in English, and Kiswahili
• Strong organizational skills; ability to prioritize work.
• Qualified female candidates particularly encouraged to apply.
• Ability to work effectively, both independently and in a team unit.
• Highly analytical skills
• Self-motivated, enthusiastic and possesses a wide range of information and communicate it clearly to the client.
• Previous experience managing a health facility is an added advantage
Previous experience in community based projects/work is an added advantage
• Prior experience implementing policies for a startup
• Prior experience managing a team of at least 10 people
• Living in or around Homabay, Kisumu, Kericho and Siaya or willing to relocate there.
