Job Purpose
The Commercial Operations & Business Development Officer will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Nairobi office while driving business growth through customer acquisition, retention, and service development.
Key Responsibilities
Nairobi Office & Operations Management
· Oversee daily operations of the Nairobi office to ensure efficient workflow, accuracy, and compliance with company procedures.
· Coordinate with Head Office and internal departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
· Maintain accurate operational records and documentation.
Air Cargo & Cargo Manifest Operations
· Coordinate air freight bookings and follow up with airlines and service partners.
· Originate, verify, and manage cargo manifests in compliance with aviation, customs, and regulatory requirements.
· Track shipment progress and promptly resolve operational challenges.
Import & Export Consolidation Operations
· Coordinate cargo consolidations to ensure efficiency, cost optimization, and timely dispatch.
· Liaise with warehouses, airlines, and inland transport providers.
· Ensure accurate and timely preparation of export documentation.
Inland Logistics Coordination
· Plan and coordinate inland transportation for air cargo and shipments.
· Monitor transporter performance and delivery schedules.
· Address and resolve inland logistics challenges effectively.
Customer Relations & Business Development
· Act as the primary contact for Nairobi-based clients.
· Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and prospective customers.
· Identify and pursue new business opportunities in air cargo, export consolidations, and inland logistics.
· Prepare quotations and support contract negotiations in coordination with management.
· Promote Simpet Global Logistics’ services and contribute to revenue growth.
Reporting & Compliance
· Prepare operational and commercial reports for management review.
· Ensure compliance with aviation, customs, and trade regulations.
· Adhere to Simpet Global Logistics’ internal controls, policies, and quality standards.
Qualifications & Experience
· Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
· Preferred courses:
o Maritime Transport Logistics
o Customs and Freight Logistics
o Cargo Services Operations
o Maritime Transport Operations
· Minimum of 3 years’ experience in freight forwarding, air cargo operations, logistics, or commercial roles.
· Demonstrated experience in business development, customer acquisition, or sales support within the logistics sector.
Skills & Competencies
· Strong understanding of air cargo, export documentation, and inland logistics operations.
· Proven business development and customer relationship management skills.
· Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.
· Strong organizational, planning, and problem-solving abilities.
· Ability to work independently and meet targets under pressure.
· Proficiency in MS Office and freight/logistics management systems.
