Salary Scale: Ksh.63,782 – Ksh.81,404 p.m. (Job Group ‘P’)Duties and Responsibilities
An officer at this level will be responsible for administering, directing, controlling
and supervising operations of a large and complex service laboratory. Specific
duties will include:
(i) planning, coordinating and managing research projects;

(ii) implementing policy on professional standards for laboratory work;
(iii) providing technical advice and assistance to other Government
Departments and Community on matters relating to use of chemicals,
water quality and pollution of the environment; and
(iv) supervising, guiding, training, developing and evaluating staff in the
laboratory.For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: (i) served satisfactorily in the grade of Assistant Government Chemist/Chief Chemists at Job Group ‘N’ or a comparable and relevant position for at least three (3) years; (ii) a Master of Science (MSc.) degree in Chemistry or in any other relevant field from a recognized institution; and (iii) demonstrated competence and administrative ability in the running of a laboratory service.
