Job Purpose
The overall purpose of the job is plan, coordinate, and execute engineering projects and maintenance activities in collaboration with all departments to ensure that the engineering team is meeting the needs of the company

Key duties and responsibilities
a) Develop and implement the engineering and maintenance strategy to ensure optimumplant reliability, equipment availability and operational efficiency.
b) Plan, direct and oversee all engineering, maintenance and utilities operations, ensuring engineeringservices effectively support production and business objectives.
c) Lead the planning, execution and monitoring of engineering projects, ensuring delivery withinapproved budgets, timelines and technical specifications.
d) Provide leadership, direction, coaching and performance management to the engineering teamtopromote high performance, accountability and continuous capability development.
e) Develop and monitor preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes to maximiseequipment reliability and minimise unplanned downtime.
f) Manage the engineering departmental budget, monitor expenditure and drive cost optimisationwhileensuring effective utilisation of resources.
g) Approve engineering material requisitions, spare parts requirements, contractor engagementsandprocurement specifications to ensure timely availability of resources.
h) Lead investigations into equipment failures and operational issues, ensuring effective root causeanalysis and implementation of sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
i) Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant efficiency, equipment reliability, energyutilisation, productivity and operational performance.
j) Ensure compliance with engineering standards, statutory requirements, environmental, healthandsafety (EHS) regulations, food safety standards and company policies.
k) Manage engineering contractors, suppliers and service providers to ensure quality service delivery, contractual compliance and value for money.
l) Monitor engineering performance through appropriate KPIs and prepare periodic operational, maintenance and project performance reports for management.
m) Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, regulatory authorities and other external partners.
n) Keep abreast of emerging engineering technologies, maintenance best practices and industrydevelopments, recommending innovations that enhance business performance.
o) Provide technical advice and guidance to management on engineering matters to support operational and strategic decision-making.
p) Perform any other duties assigned by the Line manager from time to time.

Key performance indicators
Key performance indicators include delivery of the engineering and maintenance strategy, overall plant reliability and equipment availability, reduction of unplanned downtime and recurring equipment failures, compliance with preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance programmes, reliability and efficiency of utilities operations, engineering budget adherence and cost optimisation, delivery of engineering projects within approved budgets, timelines and technical specifications, statutory, EHS and food safety compliance, contractor and supplier service delivery and value for money, results delivered through continuous improvement initiatives in plant efficiency, energy utilisation and productivity, engineering team performance and capability development, and timely, accurate engineering performance reporting to management.

Knowledge, experience and qualifications required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or a related Engineeringdiscipline.
  • Professional registration with the relevant engineering body is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years' progressive engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least three (3) years in an engineering leadership or management role.
  • Demonstrated experience in maintenance management, engineering project management, utilities management, asset reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Sound knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance systems, engineering best practices, and applicable statutory, environmental, health and safety (EHS), and food safety requirements.
