Job Title: Head of Finance – Construction Industry

Department: Finance Department

Location: Nairobi

Reports to: Chief Executive Officer

1. Job Purpose

To provide strategic financial leadership and ensure strong financial governance, performance management, and sustainability of the organization. The role is responsible for financial planning, reporting, internal controls, treasury management, and compliance, while supporting executive decision-making and safeguarding company assets.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Financial Governance & Internal Controls

·         Develop, implement, and enforce financial policies, procedures, and approval frameworks.

·         Ensure strong internal controls including segregation of duties and authorization limits.

·         Safeguard company assets and prevent fraud or financial misstatement.

·         Maintain continuous audit readiness.

B. Financial Performance Management & Reporting

·         Prepare accurate monthly management accounts, board reports, and statutory financial statements.

·         Analyze financial performance, trends, and variances with actionable insights.

·         Provide data-driven recommendations to support strategic and operational decisions.

·         Ensure integrity and reliability of financial data.

C. Cash Flow, Treasury & Working Capital Management

·         Oversee cash flow forecasting, liquidity planning, and working capital optimization.

·         Manage receivables, payables, payroll, and tax obligations.

·         Enforce credit control policies and manage DSO.

·         Ensure sufficient funding while minimizing financial risk.

D. Strategic Planning & Business Advisory

·         Lead budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial planning.

·         Conduct financial modeling, scenario analysis, and risk assessments.

·         Advise leadership on pricing, cost structures, and investment decisions.

·         Provide financial insights on projects and capital investments.

E. Systems, ERP & Data Integrity

·         Oversee ERP systems and financial reporting tools.

·         Ensure financial processes are system-driven, accurate, and traceable.

·         Improve automation, dashboards, and real-time reporting.

·         Maintain strong data integrity and access controls.

F. Leadership & Team Management

·         Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team.

·         Establish KPIs, performance standards, and accountability frameworks.

·         Promote a culture of integrity, accuracy, and continuous improvement.

·         Ensure succession planning within the finance function.

G. Audit, Regulatory & Statutory Compliance

·         Manage internal and external audits.

·         Ensure compliance with tax laws, accounting standards, and regulations.

·         Act as liaison with auditors and regulatory authorities.

·         Address audit findings promptly.

H. Risk Management & Financial Sustainability

·         Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks.

·         Strengthen financial resilience through governance and planning.

·         Ensure sustainability during growth and economic downturns.

·         Escalate critical risks to executive leadership.

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

·         Timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting

·         Budget vs actual variance (%)

·         Cash flow forecast accuracy

·         Days Sales Outstanding (DSO)

·         Audit findings and resolution timelines

·         Compliance rate with statutory requirements

·         ERP system utilization and data accuracy

·         Cost savings and financial efficiency improvements

·         Team performance and retention rate

·         Number of financial/control breaches

3. Qualifications

·         Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, or related field

·         CPA, CMA, or equivalent professional qualification (Mandatory)

·         Minimum 10–15 years’ progressive experience in finance and accounting

·         At least 5 years in a leadership/managerial role

·         Experience in audit, compliance, and financial governance

·         Strong ERP and financial systems experience

·         Experience supporting executive and board-level decision-making
