JOB OVERVIEW

Kenvado is seeking an experienced and highly organized Human Resources Manager to lead and manage all HR functions at our avocado oil pressing and refinery plant in Kisii. This is a full-time, senior-level role providing end-to-end HR leadership, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee & industrial relations, while ensuring full compliance with Kenyan labour laws, workplace health & safety, food safety regulations, and internal policies.

 

The HR Manager will report to the General/Country Manager and work closely with Production, Quality & Compliance, Finance/Admin, and Health & Safety teams to ensure a productive, compliant, and high-performing workforce.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Lead recruitment for plant staff, casual workers, supervisors, and support roles, and plan workforce needs aligned with production schedules and seasonal demand.

·        Maintain accurate employee records, including headcount, employment contracts, and training documentation.

·        Oversee onboarding, inductions, and performance reviews to support employee development and compliance.

·        Lead and manage all employee and industrial relations functions, including grievances, disputes, disciplinary appeals, and compliance with Kenyan labour laws and Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs), ensuring a fair, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.

·        Act as the company’s primary HR & IR liaison, collaborating with senior management, unions, employee representatives, and regulatory authorities to negotiate CBAs, represent the company in labour forums, proactively manage industrial relations risks, and prevent work stoppages.

·        Partner with supervisors and line managers to support attendance, performance, and workplace conduct.

·        Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performance workplace culture.

·        Maintain attendance, timesheets, leave, and overtime records, coordinate payroll inputs with Finance, and ensure statutory deductions (NSSF, NHIF, PAYE) are accurate and timely.

·        Ensure HR policies comply with employment legislation and support labour inspections, audits, and reporting.

·        Coordinate workplace health and safety initiatives, including training, PPE compliance, inductions, and incident reporting.

·        Maintain training and competency records, coordinate mandatory and SOP-related training, and identify workforce skills gaps.

·        Support performance management and disciplinary processes in line with Kenyan labour law.

·        Prepare workforce, leave, training, and compliance reports while maintaining accurate documentation.


QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

·        Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field.

·        Registered and certified member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM-Kenya).

·        Minimum 5 years of progressive HR experience, including industrial/employee relations in a manufacturing or unionised environment.

·        Strong knowledge of Kenyan labour laws, CBAs, and HR best practices.

·        Experience in managing unions, labour disputes, and industrial hearings.

·        Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.
