Open Gov Africa - (Office of The Citizens) is a decentralized collaborative platform dedicated to promoting transparency, accountability, and citizen participation across African governments. By leveraging open data, we aim to empower citizens, track government activities, and ensure that public officials are accountable for their actions.

• The definition of citizens here is not just limited to office holders. Every citizen is in office via the elected/appointed official(s) who are called to serve the people.
• It is pertinent to note that because of the decentralised and open source nature of this project, it will continue till bad governance in Africa is corrected.
• To ensure continuity, there will be numerous maintainers to continue the good work of holding leaders accountable.

OpenGov Africa is a civic-tech initiative using open-source technology, data, and community collaboration to strengthen transparency, accountability, and citizen participation across Africa.
We are seeking a highly motivated & self starting Human Resources (HR) Volunteer to support our growing team. This role is ideal for someone interested in volunteer management, organizational development, and building strong team cultures within mission-driven organizations.
The HR Volunteer will help support recruitment, onboarding, and volunteer coordination to ensure that team members are engaged, supported, and aligned with the organization’s mission.
Key Responsibilities

• Recruitment & Outreach Assist in posting roles, screening applicants, and managing recruitment via platforms such as LinkedIn, and Idealist.
• Onboarding & Orientation Design and oversee onboarding processes for new volunteers to ensure smooth integration into the organization.
• Volunteer Engagement Support strategies to keep volunteers motivated, engaged, and aligned with OpenGov Africa’s mission.
• HR Policies & Documentation Help develop and document policies (e.g., Code of Conduct, diversity & inclusion practices).
• Conflict Resolution Provide support in addressing volunteer concerns, promoting healthy communication and team well-being.
• Team Collaboration Work closely with leadership, project managers, and the volunteer coordination team.
  

Qualifications

• Proven experience in HR functions (hiring, onboarding, team building, people management).
• Strong background in project and team management, including follow-ups and reporting.
• Ability to track and manage KPI, KRA, timelines, and deliverables effectively.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a remote team environment.
• Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks.
• Passion for social impact and governance-related initiatives.
