ABOUT THE COMPANY
GIZ, the German Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH, provides services in the field of international technical cooperation worldwide. In Kenya, it has been active since 1964, and up to now implements programs in a wide variety of areas, including economic development, green energy and water, governance, food security, and peace and security. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) is GIZ’s main commissioning party. However, GIZ as well works closely with the private sector, fostering successful interaction between development policy and foreign trade.
JOB SUMMARY
A. Project BackgroundBuild4Skills is a global initiative implemented by GIZ on behalf of BMZ and co-funded by the European Union, aimed at integrating vocational training and work placements into infrastructure projects. By providing young people with hands-on experience in sectors such as energy, transport, water, construction, digitalization, and urban development, the initiative equips them with job-relevant skills and facilitates their transition into formal employment. Working with development banks, including the African Development Bank (AfDB), Build4Skills ensures that infrastructure investments create both physical assets and sustainable human capital. In Kenya, the initiative leverages the country’s strong infrastructure pipeline and ongoing TVET reforms to address skills mismatches, strengthen work-based learning, and encourage the inclusion of structured traineeships in infrastructure projects, while helping contractors access a more skilled and job-ready workforce.B. ResponsibilitiesSupport the implementation and coordination of Build4Skills Kenya project activities to ensure the timely delivery of planned outputs. Assist in stakeholder engagement and coordination with government institutions, TVET providers, private sector partners, development partners and other relevant stakeholders. Contributes to project planning, monitoring, reporting and knowledge management activities.Support the planning and coordination of workshops, training, meetings, stakeholder consultations and field activities. Assist in the preparation and review of project documentation, communication materials and technical outputs. Provide administrative and operational support to the Build4Skills Advisor to facilitate the effective implementation of project activities.C. TasksAssist in coordinating day-to-day project activities and follow up on agreed action points.Prepare meeting agendas, take minutes and track the implementation of follow-up actions.Support the organization of meetings, workshops, trainings and stakeholder events, including logistical arrangements.Draft correspondence, presentations, briefing notes, reports and other project documents.Collect, organize and maintain project data, records and filing systems.Conduct desk research and compile information on TVET, skills development, labour market trends where required.Support the preparation of communication materials and knowledge products.Liaise with project partners, consultants and stakeholders to support project implementation.Participate in field visits and document lessons learned, good practices and project outcomes.Carry out any other duties assigned by the Build4Skills Advisor in support of the project's objectives.D. Required Qualifications and CompetenciesBachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Education, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), Engineering, Project Management, Development Studies, Public Policy, Economics, Business Administration, Social Sciences or a related discipline.Knowledge of TVET, skills development, youth employment, private sector development or public-private partnerships is an added advantagePrevious internship, volunteer or work experience supporting project implementation, stakeholder engagement, event coordinationor administrative functions is an asset.Experience working with government institutions, development partners, training institutions or the private sector is an added advantage.Other Knowledge, Additional CompetencesGood organizational, coordination, and time management skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team and engage professionally with a range of stakeholders.Strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail and willingness to learn.Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks and meet deadlineAssignment DetailsDuty Station: NairobiVacancy Reference Number: GIZ/ARD/07/07/2026Equal Employment OpportunityGIZ Kenya is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and respectful workplace.
